Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 vs. GT-I9100G Ultimate Comparison Guide. All You Need to Know!

You might find there are some slightly different of the Samsung Galaxy S2 that you purchase now compare to the Samsung Galaxy S II that your friend purchased a few months back. Basically Samsung has blend both the model GT-I9100 and GT-I9100G into the market and treated it as Samsung Galaxy S2 but you may find that some of the users commented that both are not the same and there are performance differences when you run some resources crunching app/ games. So how true is it? And is there really a differences between GT-I9100 vs. GT-I9100G? Today, we going to reveal it all today.

What is the Main Differences Between I9100 and I9100G?

Basically both the I9100 and I9100G have the identical features as claimed by Samsung but the only thing that differentiate both is the processor and GPU that the unit run. I9100 run on 1.2GHz ARM CortexA9 Exynos 4210 and ARM Mali-400 GPU while I9100G uses Texas Instruments OMAP4430 CPU and PowerVR SGX540 GPU.

While according to the review from Lowyat member, the processor for I9100G seems to be capped at lower clock speed of 1008Mhz and it seldom goes up till the 1.2GHz as claim by Samsung even while performing Stress Test or benchmarks. But one thing for sure, the I9100G seem to have a better control of Galaxy S2′s poor battery life and overheating issue faced by most of I9100 users.  And as claim by the review, user of I9100G may encounter some problem to download some apps / games in the Android Market/Samsung Apps on I9100G as it failed to be optimized for the TI processor.

Updated List of Apps / Games Failed to Work with I9100G

  1. Asphalt 6 (Update: User of I9100G reported that the latest version of Android 2.3.6 does work with Asphalt 6)
  2. CamScanner
  3. Scan2PDF Mobile Lite

Here is the snapshot of official statement from Samsung Malaysia in the Facebook regarding the issue:

“Hi all. Samsung released both device variants (I9100 and I9100G), which are being released at the same price and provide identical product features (including Super AMOLED plus screen and 1.2 GHz dual-core processor). The difference in chipsets does not impact the overall product performance in any one variant relative to the other. Product packaging remains the same for both variants, although the device type for each model is clearly labeled in the packaging.”

How to Identify Whether Your Samsung Galaxy S II is I9100 or I9100G?

Basically there are three way which you could check whether your unit or the unit of Samsung Galaxy S II you would like to purchase is I9100 or I9100G.

  • Check on the label at the bottom of the box.
  • Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 vs GT-I9100G Box
  • Go to the phone setting to verify it.  Settings > About phone > Model number
  • Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 GT-I9100G About Phone Ver

  • Boot up screen when you boot up
  • Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G GT-I9100 Boot Up Screen

Which Samsung S2 Model Should You Buy? GT-I9100 or GT-I9100G?

From the comparison above, it seem that I9100 fare better compare to I9100G, if price of both units is the same then I9100 should be a better option since Samsung improved the I9100 I/O, 3D performance and battery life with the latest Android firmware ver 2.3.5. But if short battery life is your main concern and you don’t  want to mess with the firmware update thing then I9100G should be good enough for you. On the other hand, if you are some hardcore gamer and like to play with the custom firmware and kernel modification thing then you should try to get the model I9100 instead.

            Hi Carl,

For your information currently Samsung only release the 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 to a few region in the world and now they stop releasing it after they officially announced the ICS availability.

So probably you would like to wait for the ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade to be made available in the Samsung Kies instead of updating to the other version of Gingerbread.

            Regards,
            Mike

      Hi Serge327,

Thanks for your input. Yes, to some point I9100G does have some advantages over I9100. But if you thinking of messing with the custom ROM then you might face some problem. Else if you would like to use your SG2 without any ROM modification then I9100G can be a good option.

Anyway it still down to the users to decide whether you would like to get a I9100 or I9100G. The option is your. I also down with the similar situation but finally I decided to get I9100 cause I might be playing with the custom ROM later.

On Asphalt 6, previously Lowyat users did complaint that they are having some problem to install it through the normal way. I guess probably the developer manage to fix it some how.

      Thanks for the feedback.
      Regards,
      Mike

Just got S2 last week, didn’t know about the different models…, I got the i9100g. Mad at Samsung for not informing users of the differences, lots of app that r 4 the S2 r not working on this one, i like the phone & even the company but i don’t like the inconsistency in the same product which is in the same region, it is okay if they change it in the US but this is not cool… thanks 4 the info…!!!

      Hi Mobbz23,

Yep so far from what I heard they phase in the model I9100G secretly in Asia. Hopefully app developer aware of the changes and get rid of the compatible issue between both the model I9100 & I9100G then we will almost have an identical SG2.

      Btw thanks for the comment.

    Hi,
I have both S2 I9100 and I9100G. I don’t see a big different. But i have a question here.. When i using both S2 to capture some object. I found that both pictures quality are actually different. I9100 is with almost 4MB quality, but by using I9100G can only get1.5MB quality. Both S2 are with same camera setting. Anybody can help me on this issue? Just want to know is that any hidden function that I missed or S2 I9100G’ camera are actually weaker then the other 1?

    Thanks.

      Hi Des,

We are not really sure bout the images size differences when the photos are captured by I9100 vs. I9100G.

But we think that it might have something to do with the CPU and GPU differences between both Galaxy II.

We will let you know if we found anything. Anyway thanks for your visit.

        Hi Salman Mulla,

With the previous Android 2.3.3 we could observed that photos taken from Android 2.3.3 in i9100 do have a bigger size but after upgraded to Android 2.3.6 the size does turn out to be smaller (lower quality perhaps).

But we have yet to really compare the photos taken with i9100 vs i9100G through a side by side comparison.

One more interesting question is that,Samsung released ICS update for GT-i9100 .

            April 14, 2012 at 12:38 am #

            Hi Salman Mulla,

Actually Samsung yet to officially make the ICS available across all the I9100 in the world.

E.g. most part of Asian countries still failed to get the official update from the Kies. Seem that the way they handle it is kind of weird, release to some while holding back to others.

Hopefully we could really see the Sammy finally get all the release ready by this month.

            Regards,

    Guys,

I have read this site thoroughly to see if anybody having the same problem, but seems like my question still got no answer. Please allow me to ask something..

I just bought the GT-I9100G 3 weeks ago.

Last week I discovered that my GT-I9100G was not detected by all my laptops. Previously, whenever I plugged in the USB, my GT-I9100G will be automatically detected, and then i could easily transferred & viewed files in the phone. The ‘MTP connected’ is shown at the notification bar, but nothing can be done.:(

Subsequently, I have updated the firmware to 2.3.6 from 2.3.4 (which is pre installed in my phone) with hope that i can resolved my problem.

is there anything I can do? Please heylp!! the last thing I will do is to send to svc centre..:)

    Thanks alot guys!

      Hi Jamall7,

Ok let do some troubleshooting here.

      1. Could you verify whether your I9100G can work on other PC after plugging in your SG2 to other PC. Just to confirm whether it is due to some software corruption issue with your PC or the USB port might be in trouble.

      2. Try to borrow a USB cable from your friend or buy a new one to check whether the cable is the culprit.

Could you please perform the 2 steps above first then we will try to narrow down to issue or you can consider to send your unit back to Samsung Service Canter.

Keep us posted on your latest progress.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi guys,

I just bought the Samsung Galaxy S2 G variant 2 days ago with no former knowledge there are 2 versions of S2. Whilst trying to get a better screen protector at an IT shop, the shopkeeper explained to me that the model I got does not perform on par with the non G version. Then I stumbled upon this website. In a way I felt a bit cheated. After all we did pay a hefty amount of money for a device, didn’t we?

The phone seller should have explained the difference to me prior to purchasing the device. Should I send my unit back to the shop where I bought it and demand for refund?

People should get for what they paid for.

Thanks for reading. Kind of upset at the moment.

    • Mike
      November 16, 2011 at 5:42 pm #

      Hi Kelly,

We know the kind of dissapointment, it feel bad right. Samsung should have made an annoucement of the changes instead of letting us – the consumer to go and figure out ourself the changes.

But in term of refund, think it will very much depend on the shop whether they willing to accept it or not or you could try to check with them whether can swap it with a I9100 model.

Cheer up ya!!! Just forget about it and enjoy your SG2 as in term of normal function that really not much differences.

      Regards,
      Mike

I beleive that we should all boycott Samsung as it is a rogue company, they did the sam with their 3d monitor and 3D tvs by launching inferior versions in the name of newer models. They are making more money by selling cheape things and this is height of it, they replaced and put a cheaper gpu.. to earn more profits this is sheer cheating…

      Hi Jamall7,

Did you also try with different PC? If yes then we believe probably there is some hardware or software issue involve here. Then you might want to check with Samsung for advise. But please ensure that it is a stock firmware else they might void your warranty if they found out you are using a custom one.

      November 17, 2011 at 6:57 pm #

      Hi Jamall7,

Then you are clear since you updated it from Samsung’s software upgrade. What we mean by custom firmware is that you loaded it with a third party ROM like ‘Lightning’ that will void the Samsung warranty.

As per our previous input, if you have already tried out all our recommendation and the phone still failed to be detected then maybe it is a good idea for you to drop by the Samsung center and ask the staff to take a look at your problem.

It should be fast for them to figure out the issue and they will possibly replace you a new unit if really your SG2 got problem.

Let us know in the comment here if you still have any question. We will try our best to assist you.

      Hi calise,

Hanging and lagging for more than 10 times? Seem that there is some problem here. Could you confirm that even after turn off and on back the phone you still experiencing the same issue?

If yes, then we suggest you to take the unit back to Samsung center and ask them to troubleshoot since it is just 10 days old and we suspect there might be something to do with the firmware.

      OR

You could try to update to the latest firmware using the Samsung KIES and see if the problem go away.

Hope that answer your question. Let us know if you need any help.

Could you confirm that your HDMI cable is working fine? Maybe you could drop by some shops that selling the Samsung accessories and ask them to test it for u. Just mentioned that you would like to purchase it and they will test it out for you FOC.

Next, if thing still failed to resort out after that we suspect that the firmware might be get corrupted during your upgrade process to 2.3.6. So your next stop will be the Samsung Center and they will get it fix for you in no time.

As advised by the samsung svc centre personnel, it is recommended to do the firmware upgrade at any svc centre near u. Never use kies or OTA upgrade.

Yes, Jamal… I agree. Lesson learned… No more update via Kies for me.

I went to Samsung Service Centre yesterday and the service personnel reported that the firmware update via Kies has updated my phone to an international version update, not recommended for I9100G. They recommended me to back-up all my data and they will help me to downgrade back to 2.3.4.

I will back-up all my data before I go to sleep on Monday before I send it to them on Tuesday… and it’s all because I really miss enjoying my SGS2 on my big HDTV screen…

hi everyone.. seem like lagging and hanging on s2 are unavoidable.. i just bought s2 I9100G less than 10days from digi center. and i encountered hanging problem.. it hanged 2 times in the first 10days. haizz… and this phone cost almost all of my salary.. damn upset now :( (..any solution?

the lagging problem isn’t very severe…just some minor lag only..what i couldn’t tolerate is the hanging problem.. sometimes it hangs when i call somebody through viber. ive to pull out the battery and restart the phone again.. but sometimes it will hang when i do whatever things. seem like the hanging problems is depending on its “mood” = =

          Hi Jackson,

Yes in term of lagging if you open up too many program at one time cause my unit also experiencing the same thing.

But for hang that sound a but weird if you said the phone hang when you said you call someone. Hmm… maybe your firmware got some issue or there is some underlying hardware issue with your unit.

And our wild guess maybe your unit is part of the category that doesn’t fall under first pass yield group when it was manufactured back in Samsung. I work in manufacturing industry and you know sometime we just get the unit to pass through the test even it take 10 times of retest and eventually shipped it out to end customer.

Our advice is to get your unit back to Samsung Center to verify if there is any problem.

          Thanks for your visit.

    Hi Mike,

I recently ordered the SGS2 which looks like the G version which will be delivered to me soon.

I will be primarily using this for taking photos, video and playing music audio and video.
I will not be playing games with it nor rooting. Will it matter to me if I get the G version?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

      November 28, 2011 at 3:44 pm #

      Hi Andrew,

Ya, think there shouldn’t be much performance differences between G and non-G version if it not involving rooting and serious 3D gaming.

So taking photos, video and playing music audio or video shouldn’t be a performance issue.

Btw congrat for being SG2 owner and thanks for your visit.

From what lanbai had experienced, is 2.3.6 software upgrade not recommended for G-version? Wondering what’s the content of the update?

      November 29, 2011 at 1:21 pm #

      Hi teng,

Morning. Yes, sort of if according to lanbai experience on Samsung’s feedback. It will be best to check with Samsung whether is safe to update your G version to the 2.3.6 and is there any underlying problem after the update.

So far from what we have found out, Gingerbread 2.3.6 version will fix some of the bugs and added few new features to the SG2. Check out the summary below:

      Bug Fixed with 2.3.6

The update addresses the issues surrounding the locked screen hang bug.
      Fixed a voice search bug.

      Improvement with 2.3.6

Enhance boots up speed of the phone.
Increases the phone’s HSPA connection speed.
      Changes the camera Interface.
Enhanced the phone’s security and boosts the phone’s performance.

      Hi teng,

Our wild guess would be sometime around the end of this year or early 2012 but of course should be before Valentine at Feb 14 2012 where Samsung will attempt to grab more sale during the period.

    Hey Mike,

      Hi johno,

Pls DO NOT ATTEMPT to flash in the the custom rom for I9100 into your I9100G as you will brick (corrupt) it. As what we understand the ROM and kernal for both the I9100 and I9100G are different.

    Hi Mike,

I purchased I9100G last week. When I was using the camera app for sometime, when I took one pic, it froze as soon as I clicked it. Then the phone stopped responding. After sometime it went to home screen on its own. Now when I again tried to launch Camera app, I got the msg ‘Camera Failed’. After this my phoe started heating up and consuming full charge within 2 hours. I had to restart the phone to get it working properly again. I could reproduce same issue during the week. Is it the 9100G issue?

    • Mike
      November 29, 2011 at 11:47 pm #

      Hi Mangesh,

So far after we did some research, yes there are some I9100G users indeed complaint that the camera just hang after taking several shots. And so far some owner claim that by factory reset (hard reset) the phone the problem just went away. You might want to try that out. If you not sure how to factory reset your phone, please check out the video link here from AndroidAnvices.

PS: Please be noted that all the contact and data will be deleted upon the reset, do backup everything before you attempt it.

      OR

A more simple and hassle free solution will be just take your phone back to Samsung Center and tell them the issue you are facing. They might be able to get you the solution without you worrying about hard reset it yourself.

      Btw thanks for your visit.

        1. Install Samsung Kies into your PC.

        2. Connect the USB cable to your Samsung Galaxy S2. Samsung Kies will automatically prompt up the notification if a new firmware version is available when you connect Samsung Galaxy S2 to it.

        3. Just click Update to start the firmware upgrade process.

Let us know if you facing any difficulties in getting it done.

        Hi Mike,

Can i ask a few question? which much better to buy, for you?, S2 I9100-G or S2 I9100?
in terms of gaming, pictures, apps. bcoz im planning to buy this coming wikend.
so what do you think is the best version to buy?

        • Mike
          December 1, 2011 at 10:12 pm #

          Hi HaJiMe,

So far from what we found out, I9100 work better with graphic intensive 3D games since it is using Mali-400 GPU and capped at 1.2GHz. While on the other hand, the I9100G is capped at 1008MHz and have a better battery life but you won’t really feel the different of both under the normal operation.

Our recommendation would still be I9100 but since the market is running out of the stock, most of the time you will be getting I9100G from the seller instead or get it at a higher price.

Another thing, we also believe that since the market demand for I9100 is driving up the price, it will have a better resale value compare to I9100G if you plan to sale it later.

We hope that answer your question and thanks for your visit.

      1. For the “long” you claim, could you roughly estimate how long is that?
      2. Can the GPS lock it finally?
      3. Is it the same after you reboot the phone?
      4. How about using the original GPS app that come with the phone is it displaying the same thing?

    Hi Mike,

Why is it Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II – 16GB (without G) is only available in AP Warranty. Besides, Samsung I9100G Galaxy S II – 16GB (with G) is available in SME Warranty only. Is it true??

    • Mike
      December 4, 2011 at 12:49 pm #

      Hi Intamar,

That shouldn’t be true think the shop you went to look for the SG2 are not really an authorized Samsung distributor. That why they claim to offer both I9100 in AP Warranty and I9100G in SME Warranty.

So far from our experience for I9100 – the market is running out of stock so maybe the shop only have the AP unit that why they told you only have AP Warranty so it is advisable try to look for other authorized shop around your area that offer genuine Samsung Warranty instead of AP.

For I9100G, that not really true at all. Currently the market has lot of I9100G that supply directly from Samsung and come with genuine Samsung Warranty. Our advise is don’t go for it as if there anything problem with the phone you might have hard time to get it back to Samsung Center. Look for other authorized seller (non-AP or SME) that offer genuine Samsung Warranty.

Hope that answer your question. Thanks for your visit btw.

      Mike

Hi everyone :) ….. Firstly, sry if i post this question at the wrong place (pls tell me if i did D:)

I have yet to buy a Samsung Galaxy SII yet but I am a bit concerned if the phone is connectable to Mac (since i am using 1) and waiting for the price (I HOPE ^^) to drop since Galaxy note is out.

I read this from the samsung website:
Model Compatibility List with Kies (Mac):
    Galaxy S II (GT-I9100)
    Galaxy Tab (GT-P7510)
    Galaxy Tab (GT-P7500)

Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) does this only refers to the non-g ver.? how about the g-ver. ?

    • Mike

      Hi Tom,

So far all the version of Samsung Galaxy S II including I9100 & I9100G (g and non-g version) are compatible with Samsung Kies. But somehow in Samsung official website, they only refer to it as I9100.

    Thanks for last post reply.

I got replacement for my faulty camera galaxy s2 I9100G. I got this new phone last week and it is G model only. Now I am facing this new problem after 8 days of use. Hi Mangesh,

Our advise will be to get the phone back to Samsung Center again and this time ask them to thoroughly check the phone for any issue. Ask them to replace with a new one but not from the pool of RMA (customer return unit). What we mean is a brand new unit from the box.

PS: Don’t be frustrated. If really the phone is the problem, Samsung need to fix it.

      Hope that help.

    Hi Mike,

I’m still a bit worried about the differences of 3D performance or speed between both models. One LYN member wrote this:

“All the hype and comparison is just blowing stuff out of proportions. Can anyone here honestly tell me that you can feel the difference between a few points difference in any of the benchmarking programs?

The PowerVR GPU was way ahead of it’s time in the Galaxy S1. So now when they use it here people throw fits. It still has much better compatibility than the non-g’s Mali400. It is like comparing Nvidia to ATI. ATI has better hardware but Nvidia has better drivers. But both are equal in real world performance”

    http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=2120134&view=findpost&p=47262617
    ———————————————-
He mentions that Mali400 is not as compatible compared to PowerVR GPU.

I kinda want to have multiple widgets on multiple homescreens and using the web browser with muitple tabs on(desktop version) and maybe some other applications running in the background.

And also, only non G version is obtainable through AP sets whereas G version you get official SME warranty. Well, AP warranty is pretty useless when it comes to claiming warranty, probably as good as none? That’s why I’m seriously considering a G version where I can get at least 1 year of Samsung warranty, so if sh*t happens at least I can get it fixed directly at Samsung Malaysia. What is your thought on this?

Btw Mike, are you from Malaysia? =D

    Thanks in advance!

    • Mike
      December 8, 2011 at 9:18 am #

      Hi Kevin,

Yes, we did hear about the compatible issue of non-g to other apps in some forums. But so far I never face any issue with the software compatibility with the non-g version.

I disagree with the statement that the non-g is only obtainable through the AP as my own unit – the non-g version does come with original warranty from SME even at some shop you could get a 2 years original warranty from Samsung.

But due to the fact that the non-g version has almost extincted from the market. I don’t think any of the original Samsung carrier or shop that selling the Galaxy S2 still have the version available. So now just left with the shop that selling the AP unit of non-g version.

Anyway we still think that it is hard to find but not impossible to get the non-g version in the market with original Samsung warranty. Again, with the normal application of the phone like browsing, sms, gaming and etc you won’t really feel the differences as we not really need to crunch/ push the phone to it ultimate point in order to achieve all that. In the end of the day, it is just Samsung Galaxy S2.

      Yes, I am from Malaysia.

Hope that answer your question and thanks for your visit btw.

      Regards,
      Mike

And also she said that the g version function are similar to samsung galaxy 1 and the g version performance is not that good as non g version. She did said that the g version are only 1 core, not dual core. Is it true? I am really frustrated hearing that from her :(

Hye. I just bought the galaxy s2 yesterday and i didnt realized it is the g version. Can i know, is it that bad if we are using the g version compared to non g version? Because my friends are really take the version as the big matter. They said that the g version function are similar to galaxy s1 and the g version performance is lower and not the same to non g version. They did said the g version is not running the dual core and just running single core processor. Is that true? I am so frustrated hearing this from them :(

      Hi Frust girl,

The g-version is actually not that bad. We don’t think the Samsung Galaxy I9100 Galaxy S can match the g-version of Galaxy S2. Single core 1 GHz Cortex-A8 in Galaxy S vs. Dual-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A9 in Galaxy S II. Even though most of the time I9100G is operating in 1008MHz, but still it is running at dual-core. That is 2x faster than Galaxy 1.

Don’t feel frustrated. You won’t really observed much differences under the normal operating condition of the phone unless you push it to maximum level. But how often do we really crunch the phone to it ultimate level? Almost none right. And do you play with the custom ROM of the phone and max out the 3D gaming in the phone if your answer is ‘NO’ then g-version will just work fine.

In addition, all the spec for Galaxy S2 I9100 and I9100G is the same except the processor and the GPU in the phone. It is still Galaxy S2. On the other hand, you will get some better battery life with the g-version compare to non-g version.

We hope that our answer can clear your doubt on the Galaxy S2 g-version. Feel free to drop us a message if you still have any questions. We will be glad to help you resort it out.

      Thanks for your visit btw.
      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi DEJAVY,

Thanks for your visit. You mean update the firmware of the G9100 to 2.3.6?

If that is the case you could use Samsung Kies installed in your PC, connect the phone and then update directly into your phone.

Let us know if you have others question.

This blog needs an update the latest firmware for 9100G now runs at 1200Mhz…i did the exact same benchmark above, it reads 1200Mhz now instead of 1008Mhz, also scored 54xx points, almost on par with the 56xx points of the 9100 non-G. So no worries, the G is the better version!! No overheat problems, better battery life and almost same performance!

And yeah, my Asphalt 6 runs just fine!

Is that a big vertical line that is pretty obvious? And have you upgraded your phone to the latest firmware with Samsung Kies?

      Hi HaJiMe,

Hmm…. I have tried out my phone in the dark room but can’t really see the line you described.

Maybe you should proceed to upgrade with the latest firmware and if the problem persist think you should take your phone to Samsung Center. They can probably fix it or get you another unit.

      Hi khanzada,

Sorry for the late reply as we are trying to search for solution for the I9100G you have. Ok here are what we suggest after searching through the web:

      1. Clear all the data in your camera by go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Camera and clear data.

      2. Turn off anti-freeze. It is believe that the camera will freeze when it was set at 8 MB resolution with anti-shake turned it on.

      3. Factory reset the phone. If you not sure how to do it, please follow the instruction here
Notes: This will wipe your phone and return it to its out-of-the-box state.

Try whether this work, else if isn’t you could possibly contact Samsung Center in Karachi, Pakistan or drop Samsung an email regarding this matter.

      Hope this help.
      Regards,
      Mike

i would to buy SG2…..but now i’m confuse with this two version(g version and Non g version) from this two version which is more better to playing games, capture the image and internet brwsing…..

      December 18, 2011 at 7:06 pm #

      Hi lanzerrs,

So far we still prefer I9100 over I9100G as most of the time it does operate at the optimum processor clock speed compare to the later.

But of course that would also mean more battery usage compare to I9100G. And so far we did heard users complaint about the issue with the I9100G when capture picture and hang issue. We have yet to tested any of the I9100G so we cant verify that statement.

So our choice still go to I9100.

      Btw thanks for your visit.

    • Mike
      December 18, 2011 at 7:36 pm #

      Hi abualnaga,

Let me go through all your 3 questions here.

      1. SG2 G or non-G
Our decision still go for non G version of I9100. But we not sure whether you can still find the non-G version in the market as so far we heard Samsung has replaced all the SG2 in the market with the G version.

      2. Which one less problem?
I9100 (non-G version) – so far the biggest issue with model is low battery life.
I9100G version – better battery management but some users complaint about the hang issue with the phone while browsing and camera while taking photos. But so far we have yet to verified the statement.

      3. T-mobile reported different spec
Samsung indeed have few model of different Galaxy S2, the one we compared in the post is the international version while in US Galaxy S2 is distributed according to the mobile operator which have different spec with the international model.

The T-mobile indeed come with a Dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion and Adreno 220 GPU compare to the AT&T version which has a much similar spec to the international version, it come with Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9 and Mali-400MP GPU.

And if you looking for a LTE version of Galaxy S2 which available in the market right now, you can check out Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket i727.

      Hope that answer your questions.

      Thanks for your visit btw.
      Regards,
      Mike

        Hi,
I want to buy SGS II (GT-i9100) in white colour. But the problem is that only G versions are available in white colour in my country. But black colour is still coming in non-G. I really like the white colour and for performance i want i9100.

Please advise me should i get the non-G (in black colour) or should i go for white (G-version) ?

        Umar

          December 21, 2011 at 11:09 pm #

          Hi Umar,

So far from our survey, most of the white unit in the market are G-version as Samsung phased in the white color SG2 around Oct-Nov 2011 time frame which is around the same time when the G-version start to appear in the market.

While the I9100 non-G version was initially released by Samsung around second quarter this year (May-Jun) in the worldwide market – only available in black during the time.

On whether you should be getting a black or white unit, it is more towards what is mainly in your priority list. The color or the functionality of the phone. Which is your main criteria in choosing the phone? Will you be using the phone for some hardcore 3D gaming or just as casual phone?

It very much depend on your personal preferences, if the processor power and phone stability is really your main concern then a I9100 will suit you best. While if you just use the phone for some normal function then a white I9100G can serve you well.

          Thanks for your visit btw.
          Regards,
          Mike

            Hi ahmad,

Yes you right, so far we did receive some feedback and other I9100G users claiming that the I9100 G-version constantly hang issue.

Currently we haven’t really tried out the I9100G yet so we couldn’t verify much on the facts. Anyway we will start researching into the topic and get it up in our upcoming post,
whether there is a problem and fix behind that.

We hope to get you the most up to date development of the I9100G.

            Thanks for your visit.

Thanks a lot Mike for your kind reply. I understand and i have read many forums and that’s why I want the non-G version.
I want a powerful device with no lag or any other issue. I’ve been using Galaxy S (i9000) (black colour) from last year. And now i need a change (want more RAM,cpu power).
I’ve seen both colours in the market and white one looks more appealing with it’s shiny back cover. Black one looks like my SGS. So….. I am confused now… As i wanted to get white i9100 but it’s not available so now should i sacrifice the white colour and go for black GT-i9100.

            Hi Umar.

Ok let dive straight into your question. For us the main concern before we buy any of the phone or gadget will be its quality. Phone stability and usability is in our main priority list then only come to the color.

But of course as long as the phone’s color or design does not fall into the category we consider ugly then we will go for it.

We not sure bout you in this case. But for us a trouble-less model (I9100) will be our choice.

PS: About the hang issue with I9100G we will dig into more detail in our coming up post so that all our readers could at least get some of the insight and have some knowledge of what is really going on. We will also provide some of the solution that gather so far from the I9100G community regarding the issue.

            Thanks for your feedback.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012

    Hi Mike ,

I going to buy a S2 but just a problem is I don’t know which to choose G or Non-G version? Because Non-G version only available in Ap set.. any different on SME(Original) set and Ap set ?

    Regards,
    Bryan

    • Mike
      December 22, 2011 at 6:19 pm #

      Hi Bryan,

So far from what we learned so far the unit from AP and the one come from SMR (original) are the same except the later does come with original Samsung warranty. The same apply for most of other phone in the market.

But we feel more confident to have Samsung serving us for waranty compare to other third party AP vendor. For us warranty of the phone is one of the most important factor we consider before we buy the phone. In any cases, we think that the warranty provided by SME will be much better compare to the AP warranty. You could judge from the level of professional that Samsung possess compare to the third party repair shop out there.

While in term of product knowledge of SG2, in most of the time Samsung staff will have a much better info and intel compare to other AP source.

In case you face any issue with the phone, you could just walk in any of the Samsung center in the country and get you phone repaired or recovered right away.

We will only opt for AP if and only if the price of the AP unit is really cheap compare to the one from the original manufacturer ~ 30-40% perhaps. Else we feel that it is not worth taking the risk if both the AP and SME’s price are at a mere 10% differences or same.

We have to agree that it is pretty hard to get I9100 non-G version with original warranty from SME right now but there maybe some other shops that still carry it.

In general, either AP or original set it is a measurement of the risk level you take and the coverage in case the phone have issue. But if you change your phone often then AP or original shouldn’t be matter much.

      Thanks for your visit.
      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi Bryan,

You r most welcome. Yeah, 2 years warranty is a great one as Samsung only offer those extra warranty deal to the main distributor across the country.

If for normal operation think that shouldn’t be much different between the G and non-G version. We will try to compile the I9100G’s report out by tomorrow but that if only you could wait for our complete review on the I9100G (the latest feedback from the its users) and performance.

Hopefully we could get our finding up prior to your purchase decision. Anyway the 2 years warranty is really a nice deal.

I bought an 19100 & inside it was I9100G. The phone was quite okay though the chipset is different. The GO Launcher lags with live wallpaper. I haven’t had any issues with the camera or hanging TILL NOW. I want to overclock it to 1.2. How do I do it? I’m running the stock 2.3.6 ROM in India. Hi Rajarshi,

Sorry for the late reply, I was away for Christmas for the past few days. Thanks for the info on SG2 I9100 G-version. If you currently have the 2.3.6 ROM version installed it should be running at 1.2GHz.

Yes, so far from our info both the I9100 and I9100G will also get the upgrade for ICS.

Keep testing and crunching the phone and if your unit work fine think you could keep it as it is getting harder to find the I9100 nowadays in the market.

      Hi Bright Ivan,

Sorry for my late reply as I was away in past few days for the Christmas.

      1. Any ideas about ICS for SGS2? It is projected to be available on the coming Q1 2012 but everything still subject to Samsung’s official announcement.
      2. The SGS2′s battery doesn’t seem to last long.. Is it? Yes, it will heavily consume your battery life unless you disable some of the battery eating app and do install Juice Defender. Pls follow our battery saving guide here.
      3. Did TouchWiz UI cancelled the lock animation that is supposely available on Gingerbread? Any ideas how to activate it WITHOUT rooting or custom ROM? Lock animation? Hmm.. So far we haven’t try out on that. Will let you know if we found out how.
      4. Does this phone hangs frequently? Mine does! Yes sometime. From our experience it depend on the apps you are currently running and how heavily is the resources usage.
      5. This phone also heats up easily… Any ideas? Yep, try to update to the latest version of firmware and could I know what is the temp reading btw? Cause the I9100G should be less hotter compare to I9100.

Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year 2012 -:)

    Hi Mike

I already searched the market here in Jeddah- KSA but all is selling only G version including the agent himself
what I noticed that most of the sellers up to now aren’t able to differentiate between the two versions, they all say that the two versions are similar & there is no difference.
My question is what did Samsung do to solve this problem? does they know about these defects? do they release any software to remove these defects?

      Hi abualnaga,

You are right most of the seller do not even aware of the changes Samsung made. So far there are few users reported having issue with the G-version while some said that the phone work great without any issue.

It might be a batch related issue but so far we have yet to heard any update from Samsung regarding the this.

      Hi babar,

Hmm… G model supposedly to save you the battery life. Maybe you could try to turn off all the syncing, 3G and other battery eating app. You may also follow our battery saving tips here.

PS: Try to get the Juice Defender from the Android Market and you will notice a significant improvement over your battery life.

Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year 2012-:)

    Hi,

    Good day.

Me and my friends took great lengths of browsing and comparing SGS2 with iphone 4S.

A friend buy iphone and me the SGS2. On which our friends are very much happy because we can now actually compare it by using it. I have convinced most. Of. My friends actually all buy SGS2 but how will I explain now that all have with G version and I have the original…..

I bought my unit last December 2 and all my friends bought last friday… Im just kinda. Felt guilty of the situation…. How I explain to them.

You mean your friends all getting the G version while you have the non-G? Did you buy for them and asking us how to explain to them that their is G while you are getting a non-G version?

    Hi Mike,
    Have used SG2 G from Nov 1st, updated to 2.3.6 and having same issues as being reported by other users here;

    1. 6 times hang, press ON button than ok
    2. 3 times hang (cyclic reload), need to remove battery
    3. Poor GPS (PAPAGO X5), slow to lock signal and after less than 5 mins in the car the apps hang (every time till now)

Been busy … didn’t manage to go to d svc ctr yet.

Honestly I’m really dissappointed with this phone at the moment, is 2.3.6 the culprit ?

    • Mike
      December 26, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

      Hi fitri,

That sound bad. We supposedly to come out with the full review of the G version on last Sat but as we are away for holiday these 2 days our review was delay.

Anyway we will try to get that up ASAP.

Yeah, we heard Samsung claimed that the 2.3.6 is causing some issue to the SG2 G version. Think it will be good if you could get your phone to SME.

Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year 2012-:)

    Hi Mike and GT-I9100G users,

I have bad experiences after upgrading from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6… so I wouldn’t recommend you guys upgrading via Kies… The HDTV Adapter outputs no sound… But it works fine after downgradi

Just to share with you guys the uncertain future of GT-I9100G if Samsung were to make 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade to Galaxy S II available…. or can it?

Happy New Year to Mike and you guys out there!!!

      Hi Lan Bai,

Thanks for the info. For the I9100G on Android 4.0 ICS, we think that Samsung will surely make it upgradeable as currently most of the unit sold in the market now are I9100G. Samsung can’t afford to make the users mad about their decision.

Thanks again for the input and Happy New Year 2012-:)

    Hi Mike,

I updated my i9100G software to 2.3.6 OTA since Kies was unable to update itself (and wont let me update phone software till it did so).
After the upgrade I am unable to connect the phone using usb to the PC. It says, “Windows needs to instal drivers for your Unknown device.”
Please tell me where can I get the drivers or resolve this issue in anyway.

Actually saved for a couple of months to buy SG II without previously knowing that there are two versions. Bought and have been using it for two days now and restarted it a few minutes back to see that on startup it said I9100G. Curiosity got the better of me and came up on this site after searching and since then feeling depressed. Will check with the shopkeeper but doubt he’ll himself have a clue about it, though he’ll refer me to the warranty people, know that i’ve bought it, there isn’t much that can be done. Samsung has cheated not only me but a considerably number of people, will not be buying their products again, their website doesn’t mention the two variants. Even the box that i have mentioned exynox chip inside.
My primary issue is that it is mentioned here that it’ll perform poorly at 3D and will not clock over 1 GHz, even though it says 1.2 Ghz. Will there be an update that can change this clock issue or will it stay like this?

    • Mike
      January 2, 2012 at 6:05 pm #

      Hi SAM,

First of all, don’t feel disappointed your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G. Although we believe that Samsung should have informed the users about the changes.

In term of 3D, you won’t feel much performance different when you running most of the games. Samsung and game developers have fixed most of the comparability issue that users reported when running the game. e.g. Asphalt 6 can now run smoothly on the I9100G including most of the 3D intensive games.

Users informed that the latest Android 2.3.6 did indeed fix the issue with the 1GHz clock speed limitation capped by TI processor and some reported their units are running at 1.2GHz when it was benchmark.

So far have you experiencing any specific issue with your I9100G? “Hang” issue when running some apps is normal even for I9100 but if it hang or restart often then we think that is it something irregular.

Thanks for your visit and wishing you have a wonderful year ahead!
      Regards,
      Mike

        hi Mike,

Thanks for your prompt reply, it certainly makes me feel better to know that samsung and the developers are working on the compatibility issues and when i upgrade to 2.3.6, the clock issue will be resolved. But still i would have felt better had i been aware of this information before going to purchase it. I found S II to be rated as the best mobile phone on techradar, cnet and one other tech site, hence i opted for this over the iphone. So you can understand my disappointment.

In the last two days i’ve only had the hang issue twice, both times while trying to use the torch app from the widget. Otherwise it has been ok so far. I haven’t really used graphic intensive stuff so far, but will soon do and then will be in a better position.

Thanks again and keep up the good work!! Good year ahead to you as well!! :)

        regards,

          And thanks for the compliment-:)

Hi !!! I have i9100g and i found that the pictures taken from the camera of i9100g are less in size (1.5 – 2.0mb) while same pictures taken from my friend’s i9100 has size between 4-5mb when both phone’s camera resolution is set to 8mp then What is the reason of this difference ? and can i get same pictures like i9100 by any application or update etc. ?

      January 6, 2012 at 11:13 am #

      Hi Vicky,

Have you verify against all the setting of both the units – your I9100G and your friend’s I9100G? (Including the firmware version)

If all is the same we suspect that the processor and GPU differences between both the version that is causing the image size variation.

For your information I9100G is come with TI OMAP4430 processor and PoverVR540 GPU. While I9100 is equipped with Exynos 4210 processor and MALI 400MP GPU.

It seem that it is something intrinsic and beyond the scope of what software can do unless Samsung release another improvement update on the firmware.

Maybe you could try to play with the setting of the camera before taking the picture to see if there any improvement.

      Thanks for your visit-:)

I have two more questions :
Why ram status in my i9100g shows 0.91gb not full 1gb ?
Can i overclock i9100g to 1.2ghz and it it safe and will it increase the overall performance ?

      January 6, 2012 at 1:42 pm #

      Hi Vicky,

Q: Why ram status in my i9100g shows 0.91gb not full 1gb ?
A: All the Android or even PC will not show the excat memory as the apps/ Android OS might use up some of the memory and the GPU will take some of it as well.

Q: Can i overclock i9100g to 1.2ghz and it it safe and will it increase the overall performance ?
A: So far was what we understand Samsung has removed the cap as mentioned in the latest release of Android 2.3.6 firmware. So as long as you updated your I9100G to the latest revision of the firmware (2.3.6) you don’t need to go through the hassle of overclock. And again if you talk about overclocing, in our opinion as long as the phone could deliver and meet all your expectation, we not really suggesting anyone to go through the overclock path as you not sure whether it might cause some software stability issue later.

      Hope that answer your questions.
      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

I had a Sensation which caused me so much grief, it’s now in a drawer. 2 weeks ago in Kenya I purchased a SGii I1900G and it started out as an amazing phone, but now I am at my wits end.

It hangs up at least 5 times a day for no apparent reason, gets very hot at the upper part of the screen. But that isn’t the worst thing.

At least 5 times out of 6 when I switch it on, I have the Samsung Galaxy intro sound, but that’s it. No other sound whatsoever, not even the ringing tone. (However during this state the camera still makes it’s shutter noise)

I just have to keepswitching it off and switching it back on until it comes on with sound.

Also KIES tells me that I have the latest firmware, but it seems that I don’t as everyone here is talking about 2.3.6

    Any Ideas.

    Model GT-I1900G
    Android Ver 2.3.4
    Baseband Ver I1900GDKH5
    Kernel Ver 2.6.35.7
    root@DELL156 #2
    Build No. Gingerbread XWKH8

    Made in Vietnam by Samsung

I tried to do a Factory Reset, but it keeps asking for my Samsung Account Password, which I didn’t write down when I set the thing up and I don’t know where to go to get it.

I live in Sudan and there are so Samsung Service centres here, so perhaps I am going to have to send this phone somewhere.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

      January 6, 2012 at 2:02 pm #

      Hi Geoff,

That sound to be a firmware issue for us. Since there are not Samsung Service Center in your area. The only option we could think of is to upgrade your Galaxy S2 I9100G to the latest firmware – Android 2.3.6 to see if the problem go away. Please follow the step by step instruction listed below:

Notes: Applying this firmware won’t root your Samsung Galaxy S2, so it’s safe to apply this update. Or in another word, it won’t void the Samsung warranty by applying this update.

You may follow the complete guide on how to upgrade your firmware using Odin here from AndroidAdvices.

Let us know whether you manage to get rid of the problem after your upgrade.

Thanks for your visit and we wish that you manage to get it resolved.

I have just got the G phone and i have two inquiries :

    1. The pictures of my contacts that appear when i dial or receive phone calls is of low resolution (pixeled)?

    2. My build number is : GINGERBREAD.JPKH8. and BASEBAND VERSION is I9100GDZKH5
From the previous comments, i figured out upgrading to 2.3.6 is not a good idea right now, what do you advise?

    3. I tried using the update from my phone, but every time the connection to the server fails though i am connected via wireless and the signal is excellent. What is that?

    4. Is there an alternative guaranteed way to update the software, in case it’s recommended to do so?

      Hi amrshebi,

      Sorry for the late reply.

      1. The pictures of my contacts that appear when i dial or receive phone calls is of low resolution (pixeled)?
We are trying to simulate with the I9100-non-G. Seem that it is not of high resolution as what your claimed.

      2. My build number is : GINGERBREAD.JPKH8. and BASEBAND VERSION is I9100GDZKH5
From the previous comments, i figured out upgrading to 2.3.6 is not a good idea right now, what do you advise?
I think currently it is safe for I9100G to run with the Android 2.3.6 as Samsung has already shipped the units with Android 2.3.6 now. You connect your device to the PC that have the latest Samsung Kies installed and get your phone updated.

      3. I tried using the update from my phone, but every time the connection to the server fails though i am connected via wireless and the signal is excellent. What is that?
Our advice is to stick with the USB which connect your phone with the PC in order to avoid any issue/ interruption during the whole process.

      4. Is there an alternative guaranteed way to update the software, in case it’s recommended to do so?
It will be through the Odin manual update. You may follow the complete guide on how to upgrade your firmware using Odin here from AndroidAdvices.

Looking at Nenamark2 and GLBenchmark scores. obviously it shows that there ARE differences between non-G and G version.

Non-G version are faster in terms of performances.

You cannot compare the old Antutu scores with the new Antutu scores, coz non-G version also got an increased on the scores if tested again(6k+).

      Hi som,

Hang after few clicks? You mean camera hang after taking a few snapshots? So far majority of the latest retail units I9100G sold in Malaysia are equipped with the Android 2.3.6. And I have even played with my friend’s unit, no issue being spotted on the camera. Just as smooth as I9100.

I would say it is safe to get the Android 2.3.6 upgrade in your unit. “No cons” so far as what I observed.

      only 9100g models are available
      so i had some doubts:
      1) is the processor capped at 1008ghz, does the 2.3.6 update clock the processor to 1.2ghz

      2) is the gpu that weak, as the benchmarks suggest?

        hello mike,

i am from india too, n really confused with the whole G and non G versions
as i see now, there are no 9100 models available in pune ,india.
        only 9100g models are available
        so i had some doubts:
        1) is the processor capped at 1008ghz, does the 2.3.6 update clock the processor to 1.2ghz

        2) is the gpu that weak, as the benchmarks suggest?

coz then i was thinking of buying the htc sensation
        plz help

          Hi yasho,

          1) is the processor capped at 1008ghz, does the 2.3.6 update clock the processor to 1.2ghz
So far as what we have been informed the 2.3.6 update does remove the 1008MHz capped. And now it is operating at 1.2GHz. But please be reminded that even for our normal PC CPU, it will automatically stepping down the clock speed when it is not running a resources intensive application to save the power usage.

          2) is the gpu that weak, as the benchmarks suggest?
Yes from the benchmark the Mali GPU in I9100 does somehow better compare to the one in TI chipset but it is transparent to the normal operation of the phone. Even when we take the photos or play movie with it both the I9100 and I9100G does perform on par with each other.

You mean HTC Sensation XE? That’s a great phone btw.

          Hope that answer your question.
          Regards,
          Mike

      Hi Jayasimha Reddy,

I have managed to snap 15 photos continuously from my friend’s I9100G. No hang or error messages were observed during the whole process. (‘No flash’ was enable during the whole photo taking session)

For your information he is using Android version 2.3.6. Hmm… wondering what was causing the hang issue as you has indicated.

Anyway we will trying to checkout if there is any particular setting or solution to your issue.

    Hi Mike,
Im using the latest galaxy s2 g model. Firmware version is 2.3.6 and Im very satisfied with it. Just want to confirm that is it true that there is some quality difference in image quality between g and non g version when they both are set at same settings and 8 MP ??

    • Mike
      January 11, 2012 at 11:16 pm #

      Hi Aakash,

Hmm… it is quite hard to spot the differences. As what we found out, with the latest upgrade of I9100 to the Android 2.3.6, the photo’s file size that were taken from the phone (I9100) has been reduced around 1MB (approximately 2MB-3MB in size) compare to the Android 2.3.3 (approximately 3MB-4MB in size) in 8MP mode.

Although both I9100 and I9100G are using a different processor and GPU but the firmware might affect the image quality as well.

So in other word the differences is too minimal and not significant to be worded in the comparison.

      Hope that answer your question.
      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

I’m using my Sgs2 I9100G running on 2.3.6 for more than 1 month and the performance always impress me so far, however over the short period of using this model i9100g given me the following problems:-

    1) Camera freeze – this was happen when taking few shots (the number of shot taken till freeze may varies as it may freeze after 3 to 6 shots, sometimes even 2nd shot). However, the restart will solve the problem but the problem will come back again and again (A little bit annoy when trying to catch the great moment using the camera but my GOD its freeze!!! @@). Only way to stop the freeze is pressed the home button but this not end the story as when you try to use the camera again, it will tell you this “Camera failed”…oh man!!! I have tried clear the camera data and reset the camera setting but seem that the problem still persist.

    2) Browser got hang and sometimes even shut-off – I tried to figure out what causes the hang and noted most of the time its hang when the web-page using flash. However, this is no confirm cause sometime running just great.

    3) My communication network down – I’m using Digi network Malaysia, sometime the phone can’t make any call and even can’t call me!!! It is looked like the network down with no reason but the status bar still showing the signal is full. Again, the restart will brighten your day and will solve the problem but i found very troublesome every-time need to do the restart. I think this is caused by network service provider cause I didn’t encounter any problem during my used in Sony Ericsson Xperia X8.

Hope the ICS 4.0 will eliminate all these bug… Apart from the above, YEAH, my Sgs2 still doing a good job!!!

I just want to ask on more question…
I came across this website which stated that the max download and upload speed in 3g connection hsdpa is around 7mbps and 2mbps for I
    900G. Is it true??

    http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9100g_galaxy_s_ii-4327.php

    • Mike
      January 15, 2012 at 3:32 am #

      Hi Askash,

So far as the data we get from Samsung’s Official Website in Malaysia, it indicate that the I9100G will have the spec of

      21 Mbps for download
      5.76 Mbps for upload

And sometime the data indicated in the GSMArena is not truly reflecting the real spec in certain country. e.g. if your check at the Internal Memory session in GSMArena, it shown that Galaxy S2 will come with 16GB storage, 1 GB RAM but in country like Malaysia SG2 is equipped with 16GB storage, 2 GB RAM.

So some of the data spec might be different from the Samsung true spec. Our suggestion is to go to the Samsung Official Website in your country to verify on the real spec or you can call up Samsung support line and ask them to clarify on the fact.

      Hope that answer your question.
      Regards,
      Mike

        Hi Kim,

Sorry for the late reply, am away for Chinese New Year holiday.

        1. Could you try to play the song using other player and see whether you still experiencing the track skip issue – you could download the player for FREE at the Android Market.

        2. Else you might consider to take your unit back to Samsung center and ask them to re-verify the issue.

        3. Otherwise we will suggest you to re-flash the firmware or upgrade it if the new revision is available.

    Hi Mike

I bought the S2 G version abt 2 months, many times after taking photos often hanged Every time I need to remove the battery to restart, I sent in 3 times for repair and they changed some components, I will try for another 2 to 3 weeks after the last repair weather it is okay. Now I discovered when switch to camera mode there is no photo counter ( number of photos you still can take) on the top right hand second row.I need your advice Is this G version comes without the mentioned photo counter.

    thanks

      January 15, 2012 at 12:02 pm #

      Hi Allan,

We have verified on our I9100 and there is no photo counter on the model as well (only the video mode has the counter to show how long it left for the recording session).

Seem that there might be something wrong with the unit, some users also reported that they are facing the similar hang issue you encountered.

Our advice would be to ask the Samsung service center to get you a new unit and tell them is really no point to buy a faulty unit from Samsung and it has been more than 3 times the unit being repair but problem still persist. Just insist on the point else you might just write a complaint email to Samsung.

      Hope that help.

      Hi Vicky,

Hopefully Samsung did review all the problem that users reported but we doubt that ICS will address all the problems as Samsung still need to optimize the SG2 to the completely new platform – ICS. As far as we understand Samsung has already released few beta version of the ICS for SG2 but we suggest you to wait until Samsung officially release the bug free version.

Could we know which program you use for the benchmark?

I have been searching the net and came across this discussion. I notice all the comments on the i9100 or I9100g. I do not see any mention so far on I9100m. Do you know how the I9100M (this is what I have) compares??

    Thanks for your reply Mike,
I checked the official Samsung site in my countr(INDIA)y but still specs were for I9100 and No g version was found. Maybe it seems even g version have same download and upload speed as non g version have that is 21 and 5 mbps.
Right now my device is working properly and its bloody cool!!!
Also I read that many users here are having problem with their camera as it freezes while taking continuous shots. So I decided to test this thing on my device and took around 16 shots with 8MP and highest settings with flash. Well it took super cool shots without any sign of lagging or freezing. Hell ya Im talking about my I9100G.
Thanks again mike for clearing all my doubts.

      Hi Aakash,

You are most welcome. Yep the spec for both the G and non-G version should be the same with the exception for the processor and GPU.

Same as our observation, the I9100G’s camera just work perfectly with the Android 2.3.6. In our opinion, those that having the camera hang issue should seek Samsung’s attention immediately to resolve it.

Thanks for verify our observation that the I9100G’s camera does indeed work without any problem.

      Hi Brahat,

We would suggest you to get your unit back to Samsung Center right away since it is a brand new unit. We suspect that either the firmware has got corrupted or the audio hardware went defective.

It is better to get Samsung to check it for you and verify if there already an underlying problem exist in your unit.

        Hi Ahmad,

As posted in previous reply, so far from our experience on I9100G (on Android 2.3.6) it was running smoothly without a flaw when we tested it.

We strongly believe that those having the hang issue with their unit might be due to underlying problem with unit itself and should seek Samsung’s attention immediately.

        Regards,
        Mike

    • Mike
      January 18, 2012 at 5:13 pm #

      Hi Ahmad,

We have tried out both the I9100 and I9100G, seem that I9100G does perform on par with the I9100. No lag or hang when we tried it out. So far we have played game without any problem, installed and run GPG app – Sygic without any issue and etc.

As what we heard Samsung is running out of the Exynos chip 4210 that why they replaced it with the processor from Texas Instrument and named it as I9100G.

Frankly speaking Samsung I9103 R does not match the spec of I9100G or I9100. As it only come with 5 megapixels camera, SC-LCD touchscreen and Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor compare to I9100G or I9100 that has 8 megapixels camera, Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen and Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex 9 processor.

You may refer to the I9103 spec here from GSMArena.

      Mike

Hi everyone.. I have been using i9100G for 2 weeks now. Previously I had the camera hang issue, but now i got rid of that after changing the firmware. It seems the I9100GXWKJ2 firmware has camera hang issue. I tested I9100GJPKK1, I9100GDZKL3 firmwares and there was no camera hang issue in them. So, guys having camera hang issue can flash any one of those two firmwares through Odin. Though all the firmwares i tried till now has hang issue( phone becomes unresponsive at some times). I9100G plays any game like a charm. There is no lagging at all. But the only thing is Buggy firmwares from samsung. Now, i have rooted my I9100G, using “s2 root” from xdaforums. “Superatmos” is a newbie developer on xdaforums who made a custom rom and kernel for I9100G, and he is currently working to port ICS to i9100G..I am very excited about that :)

      Hi Flash Player,

      1. What you mean by can’t play YouTube desktop?

      2. Think that shouldn’t be problem to play Facebook games for both the G and non-G I9100 as both also support flash. Maybe you could resort to use the browser like Dolphin to play the FB game as something the app that you using does not really support the flash function. So it is more towards a software app rather than the hardware compatibility.

      3. So far we have yet to attach any external unit of SD Card but you could probably try to use a higher transfer rate SD Card e.g. class 4 and above. The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:

      • Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MByte/s)
      • Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MByte/s)
      • Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MByte/s)
      • Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MByte/s)

Sometime there is a comparability issue with the player. So the best way is to opt for other player to play the file e.g. hang, player abnormally closed during playback.

      Hi Karthik,

It sound like a firmware issue for me. So you mean you did face the problem prior to the upgrade to 2.3.6? And it have the same issue after the upgrade?

We would advise you to get the phone to the Samsung Service Center in Dubai and ask them whether they could help you on this.

Probably they would advice you to flash in the UAE firmware which in our opinion is fine as you could always flash it back when you return to India.

Today afternoon the fone got switched off when the battery went out. I plugged the charger in and switched it on. Everything is fine except there is no sound now. Absolutely none. Loudspeaker, headphones nothing. media sounds, music, alarm, keypad tones none at all.

Can u plz advice on what the problem is. This is frustrating. :(

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi VIMLESH,

We think that the fastest way to get your issue resolve is by returning the unit back to Samsung Center since the phone is a brand new unit and Samsung must fix it if it is their problem.

    Hi Mike !!!
When i change screen mode between standard , movie and dynamic then it shows no effect on the picture shown above . why ? Is there any display difference between i9100 and i9100g ?

    • Mike
      January 29, 2012 at 8:23 pm #

      Hi Vicky,

From what we could see when we switch the “Screen Mode” in our I9100:

Dynamic – Has the sharpest mode compare to both Standard and Movie mode.
Standard – Not that sharp compare to Dynamic mode but sharper than Movie mode.
Movie – Less sharper compare to Standard mode.

Notes: The effect is more obvious on the phone’s screen compare to the picture shown during the mode. The sharper the screen is the more battery life it will consume.

      Hope that answer your question.

hey, i’ve heard about the camera hang issues and that the phone will hang or lag when using sd card on the G version of this phone? is it true? if it is..are those bugs fixed or will be fixed in the future with the ICS?

    • Mike
      January 29, 2012 at 9:30 pm #

      Hi wayne,

So far we have tried the camera on I9100G and we have never experienced the hang issue as reported – “taking 16 pictures in one time”. So we suspect that the hang issue reported might be due to the incoming firmware issue.

While on the lag issue with SD Card on I9100G, we have yet to verified on that. But as per our previous reply it will be great to get at least a Class 4 micro SD Card in order to achieve a greater transfer rate.

So the bottom line is we think Samsung has already address most of the issue with the latest Android 2.3.6 update and as we believe much better improvement will be see on the upcoming Android 4.0 ICS.

      Regards,
      Mike

i just bought the Samsung Galaxy s2 I9100 today.but when i reach home i got the news that my phone is not either original set or AP original set..coz my IMEI behind my phone is not same as on screen when i type *#06#..it is true?this is really a new to thing for me..this is my second phone..and the 1st one i buy it myself…the seller told me it is the original set..

      January 29, 2012 at 9:34 pm #

      Hi AZNIN,

Your mean you phone’s IMEI and the box’s IMEI is not the same? Ok if that is the case tried to get to the place where you purchase the unit and maybe they mess up the box and eventually if it is not the same then you could request for refund. Else you could always seek Samsung Center’s advice to verify whether your unit does come with genuine Samsung warranty.

      Hope that help.

    Hi mike.

I bought sgs2 with G vertion today. and before I open it.

I read that it has some problems.
It gets lag frequently and other things.I knew what is the differences between them and I am fine with it, since i have no other choice. because i went everywhere searching for “non G” Vertion. but didn’t found it. Is it that bad ” The lag issues” ???

I’ve been reading the comments for an hour. You’re very helpful. God bless u. Mike!

    Thanks.

      January 31, 2012 at 7:30 pm #

      Hi Noor Mohamed,

I have personally tested my friend’s I9100G and it did work out smoothly without any lag and there is no hang issue when continuously taking the pictures with the unit. As we believe the latest Android 2.3.6 firmware which is loaded in the unit has addressed the previous issue reported by Samsung users.

But please be noted that even with I9100, you will be experiencing lag issue when you open up too many apps or enable the resource critical apps.

      Hope that answer your question.

      Mike

      Hi OneUsed,

We think it would be quite hard to find it but anyway you could always try your luck at those small phone booth around the shopping complex.

Pls be noted that normally those reseller just offer AP warranty rather than the one come from original Samsung warranty.

    Hi Mike,

I recently purchased Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100g. However , I am facing the below two issues :

    1) Sometimes , after taking some pics the Camera hangs. When I start the camera it shows the message “Camera failed” and I need to restart the phone again.

    2) After charging the phone either through USB cable or electric supply , when I connect the headphone and listen songs , the phone freezes. The phone is completely blank and I am not able to do anything. I need to resatr my phone to make it operational.

I went to Samsung Service Center and they replaced my phone with a new one,but still
in the new handset I am facing the above issues. Could you let me know if the above are known issues and is it related to any hardware/software issues. Now what next shoould I do ?

      Hi Arindam,

From the input of one of our reader Jayasimha Reddy, it seem that the firmware I9100GXWKJ2 is causing the camera hang issue. And he get rid of the problem after flashing in the firmware I9100GJPKK1 OR I9100GDZKL3. Check out his reply quoted below:

      Jayasimha Reddy
“Superatmos” is a newbie developer on xdaforums who made a custom rom and kernel for I9100G, and he is currently working to port ICS to i9100G..I am very excited about that

Could you check what is your current firmware in your unit?

      Regards,

          Hi arindam,

According to my analysis on firmwares for i9100G, I9100GDZKL3 is the best if you need better battery backup, though it has hang issues(but less.. usually hang occurs while detaching usb). There is a latest firmware(saudiarabia) available i tested it and i am stick with that firmware only because it has NO hang issues at all, even the camera is working fine. This firmware is very fast also, you can notice that easily. I suggest you to download and flash this firmware using odin.

          February 1, 2012 at 6:54 pm #

          Hi Arindam,

I am also from India. Any firmware of any region works anywhere, so you don’t worry about it. According to me DZKL3 is the best firmware as of now, though it has some issues, but you can solve them using some patches. I don’t have music hang issue, it might be usb detach hang, because my phone hangs after detaching usb cable..

          Download this file(dzkl3) -
          http://www.hotfile.com/dl/140746670/3f554d7/I9100GDZKL3_I9100GOLCKL3_XME.zip.html

and flash it using odin. Your data and apps will be safe, so dont worry about your installed apps or contacts or messages.

Instructions to flash(update) firmware using odin
          —————————————————————

Reboot your phone to download mode.

To get the download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely, simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .

You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode.

          3. Start Odin.

          4. Click on the PDA button & browse to the .tar or .tar.md5 file that you have extracted in step 1

          5. Don’t put .PIT file & don’t tick REPARTITION.

    Hi Mike,

Firstly thank you for your review on SGS2 which helped me a lot. I just want to ask about how can I check whether the phone is SME warranty or not? I dont want to buy the AP set. Is there any sticker on the back side of the phone like Nokia phone?

      February 3, 2012 at 11:54 pm #

      Hi JohnJack,

So far for the end user side we would recommend that:

      1. You confirm that the IMEI carried on the box is exactly the same as the one inside the phone.

      2. Confirm the dealer that sell the phone is an authorized Samsung distributor.

Notes: the dealer will register the unit through Samsung e-Warranty and you could request the dealer to do it right away when the time you purchase it in order to confirm that it is a genuine set.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

I’m going to buy this phone from Dubai ( UAE ) and I had found the 2 versions : G and non G versions. But after these updates in the G version which one is better ?

Note : I’m a user who don’t want to Root my phone , only updating the O.S androind to the latest one,and playing a few games.

also there is a second question, from what i had read in other sites , the I9100G users said that : when comparing the sound of the G and non G version (I mean the speaker ), they said that the G version had more clearness and loudness sound than I9100.

so if you don’t mind, can you check for me about the difference of the sound quality ?
and telling me which one is better now ?

    Thanks for your great help

      February 4, 2012 at 12:24 am #

      Hi Mina,

If you not playing with the custom ROM then we think that I9100G will suit you better as it does come with an improved battery life and less hotter compare to I9100.

Yes, you are right about the sound we have read that the XDA Developer’s users claim that the sound quality for I9100G is better compare to I9100 due to the OMAP processor. But so far we have yet to verify it side by side with the I9100.

So in our view, we think that you could go ahead with the i9100G.

        Mike,

Thanks for the info and help.

I have another question, if the XDA Developer’s users are right about that the G version changes the soung quality due to OMAP processor ,It’s sure that the camera quality of capturing and the screen quality(I mean it’s colours and clearness) are affected also.

so can you please verify from the quality of the camera samples and sound quality of the 2 versions side by side and reply me as soon as possible.

        thanks for your great help.

      Hi Dickin,

From our finding it seem that there is no way for you to access the Android Market with the China’s firmware. As commented by Phandroid, China has blocked the access to Android Market.

So the only alternative we could think of is to access China home breed’s Android Clone Market. Here are a few:

      WanDouJia
      AppChina
      Nduoa
      Hiapk

PS: There are some underground site which you may find it when Googling with Baidu or others search engine as well.

Do replace default camera.apk in your system/app folder with the one available at this linkhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1455224. Regarding hang issue, as of now only a few users have that music freeze issues, so i can’t help you with that, you better wait for ICS upgrade.

      Hi Pradeepraj,

Sorry for miss out your previous question. For my unit of SG2 so far it work perfectly without the pink spot problem as claimed. Seem that everything is working fine as I have updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6 without any issue observed. Yes SG3 is coming and heard will be announced during the Mobile World Congress which will be held in Barcelona, Spain on this coming 24 Feb.

And if I have the option to choose between SII,Note,Nexus, I would go for Note as it offer a much greater spec compare to SII and Nexus. But if Note and SG3 for sure will be later.

being fooled by samsung. Why they havent made an official announcement of GT-I900 AND GT-I900G ?

I dont understand that when i am ready to spent good amount of money then why should i buy the

    the lower version.
How would a normal customer know that they are buying a G or Non-G version ?.

Here are the ultimate problems which i am facing with G version :

    1. Camera failed problem[ got this problem 2 times ...since mine is a brand new piece ]

    2. The display and picture quality just suck if compared to Non-G version.

    3. Just turn on the cameras of both Non-G and G version in there default settings , the
G version is much darker while the non-G version shows u the actual temperature.

    4. Go to Settings > Display > Screen mode / background effect …you wont see any change

between Dynamic , Standard and movie mode in G version whereas in Non-G version you can see the

difference thus utilising the super amoled display fully.

So i am not able to use the display quality fully.

Now can you just explain that if this GT-I900G is an upgradable version why the hell i am facing

    so much of problem.
IF u say that battery heating has been resolved then i really see no difference because its

    draining and heating.

Even the shopkeeper from whom i bought is using galaxy s2g and he is also facing the same

    display problem .

    waiting for your reply

      Hi Mike,
Firstly, thanks for all your efforts!
I completely agree with Himanshu on all points (camera issue, poor display & no change with screen mode options). I mean I find the display on my older phone (1/3 the price of S2G) more likable! Even the “Auto-brightness” feature is not optimum – kends to keep the brightness significantly on lower side.
Another niggle I noticed is that the missed call alerts in the notification bar persist even if I click on it & view the missed calls. They clear only on clicking “Clear” specifically.
I can live with slower processors but not with all these other issues.
Samsung should not have done this. Very sad. :(

        Hi shawar,

Perhaps Samsung should have done more to inform the users about the changes. I know the kind of disappointment when we fail to get the optimum performance of what we paid for.

But again just try to think what the SG2 has helped you to achieve so far. And most of the feature lackluster that has been reported so far will not affect the overall performance and functionality of the phone as a whole.

We will send an official email to Samsung to express all our users feedback on the lack of inform for the i9100G.

        Regards,
        Mike

      Hi Himanshu,

Pls refer to the reply as below:

      1. Camera failed problem [got this problem 2 times ...since mine is a brand new piece]
You mean it hang when taking photos? What is the current firmware version of your unit? Have you tried out Jayasimha Reddy’s recommended firmware?

      2. The display and picture quality just suck if compared to Non-G version.
We will test it out with a side by side comparison with i9100.

      3. Just turn on the cameras of both Non-G and G version in there default settings , the G version is much darker while the non-G version shows u the actual temperature.
Temperature setting? We have just turn on the camera in i9100 and there is no temperature reading. Could you confirm what version of firmware was loaded in the i9100? Currently 2.3.6 don’t have any temp reading.

      4. Go to Settings > Display > Screen mode / background effect …you wont see any change between Dynamic , Standard and movie mode in G version whereas in Non-G version you can see the difference thus utilising the super amoled display fully.
Again this is another point we have to verify.

Have you tried to upgrade the firmware of your i9100G to the latest version?

      Regards,

        hii mike,
        I had following problems:
        1) My phone s2 freezes while listening to music through my headset.. I dont knw whether it is a crash or freeze.. Its like there will be a vibration noise in my headset.. Then i will have to hold power switch for few seconds to turn it on.. Then everything will be normal.. It happens only when listening to music through headset..
        2) My camera showed ” Camera failed” message three times.. Then i will have to switch it off and power it on for taking photo.. Its just 1 month old mike.. So its bit worrying..
As you said i have visited samsung service centre.. They cleaned up everything from my mobile and told me to check whether the complaint persist… They also told me that if there is any problem they will replace it.. Sadly after using it for 1 week music freezed my set 4 times.. Camera didnt hang probably because i didnt use it much..
        Android version 2.3.6
        i9100GDDKI1
        Kernel version 2.6.35.7

I am going to service center again.. I think replacing it is the best solution.. What do you think mike??

Mine is a G version.. I wasnt aware of that.. Really i am very much angry with samsung for not providing me with non-G version since in the pack it is written as s2 i9100.. So wil i get a non-G version?? Is it still available in india??? Please reply as soon as possible….

        THanks….

          Hi Midhun,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the SG2. Yes just ask them to replace with a new one or if the problem persist just go ahead and request for refund. It is an unacceptable fact to get a problematic unit from Samsung.

Hi Mike , Pls advice me as soon as possible , what is better GALAXY S2 9100G or GALAXY NOTE.
I want some thing good for games and wi fi , and also high battery life.

      Hi Sherif,

Sorry for my late reply, been busy with a new project lately.

For gaming, surfing and higher battery life it will definitely be Galaxy Note as it offer a bigger screen which will be a plus point for that while at the same time come with a greater battery life.

PS: You must try your hand on both of the units before making your buying decision as your own feeling is the most important criteria in buying any phone.

    Hi Mike,

I orddered a samsung Galaxy I9100 knowing very well that I9100G is not at par with I9100 in terms of stability ; The order was delivered and before i opened the box, i made sure to check that I9100 was printed on it. I Opened the box and found I9100G inside.I called Samsung customer care who told me that there is no difference btween I9100 and I9100G except the chipset. When i asked why I9100G is not printed on box, customer care had no answer.

The issues which i faced with I9100G were :
    1. The top part of phone will heat up if you make a long call around 5 minutes or play game continuously for more than 5 minutes.
    2. Use photo editor, the phone will freeze and you need to power it off.
    3. Start clicking photos, and after 6 or 7 photos, phone will freeze and you get “camera failed” error.
    4. While listening to music, the song will freeze and you will hear long zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound until you reboot the phone.

Spoke with samsung customer care again who told me to go to service center with the handset and i will be provided either a I9100 or full refund.
Now i have handed over my I9100g to samsung service center and waiting for an update from Samsung on Tuesday 14th Feb.

Needless to say i am very disappointed with what samsung is doing to its customers. I have wasted one week doing the research and one week handing various issue with this phone. it seems that I9100g has been launched in haste without propoer testing. The most disappointing thing is that samsung is selling I9100g in boxes which has I9100 printed, I dare samsung to do it in USA and see how it is banned there.

      Hi KJ,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the i9100G. We agree with you that Samsung has not thoroughly tested the firmware, software and hardware compatibility of the units. My friend’s i9100G seem to perform on par with i9100 as I have tried to capture 7 pictures at the same time without hang and the music player did function as it is.

That would be good if Samsung really make a refund. Would you mind to reveal which Samsung center did you go as all the i9100G users who seeking for refund could be benefited your feedback.

      Thanks for your comment btw.
      Regards,

        Mike,

First of all , thanks for the wonderful work you are doing on this website. i was very upset with samsung during my first post so could not pass my compliments to you and hence doing it now :-)

Regarding your question, i have handed over my handset to Samsung service center in IP extension area in Delhi. I would have had no issues getting a 9100G if samsung had printed same model on the box and thats why i feel samsung is fooling the customers.
Selling a 9100G inside a box with 9100 printed on it, is a clear case of cheating by Samsung.

I think Samsung should render an official apology for this cheating.

            Hi Mike,

            An update :

Got the refund cheque from Samsung for my i9100G. Searched many shops and finally managed to get an i9100 from old stock ; I have checked it intensively and have not faced any of the issues which i faced with my i9100G. There is no lag at all, it doesnt freeze when listening to music or opening photo editor. No issue with Camera.

Sound quality is good ( i dont know why anandtech.com says that i9100 sound quality is not good as it uses Yamaha chipset, I am very happy with its sound quality and its sound quality through earphones is same as i9100G)

Have you noticed any difference in sound quality of i9100 and i9100G through earphones ?

Another difference that is noted is that i9100 is made in South Korea while the i9100G that i bough was made in Vietnam. I know it wont make much difference but just sharing this information.

Over all i am happy with my i9100 and i would recommend i9100 over i9100G any day.

            My version is 2.3.3
            Baseband version I9100DDKDDKE4
            Kernel :2.6.35.7-I9100XWKF3-CL276555ROOT@DELL101#2
            Build: Gingerbread.XWKF3

Are there any known bugs for 2.3.3 as i dont see any issues at all so far with my handset ?

            Thanks
            KJ

            Hi KJ,

That is really a great news. Congrat man!!! And thanks for updating us on the refund status of your i9100G.

Difference in sound quality of i9100 and i9100G through earphones? Not really, we have yet to experiment a side by side comparison between both. But our wild guess told us that it shouldn’t be significant.

Overall the Android 2.3.3 perform greatly without much issue. If you not really facing any battery drainage issue with the 2.3.3 then you could stay with the version as it does offer a much better picture quality with the version.

            Regards,
            Mike

Gotta say i do feel sorry for the ones who got a G version when expectng a I9100. I think that is not fair play by samsung and im starting to wonder about them.

I didnt get a samsung phone for years because of them breaking down all the time. I got a I9100 in Sept and i love it – i advised everyone to get one – told them all it was the best phone out there – def the iphone killer.

No lock lag, camera fine, newest kernal version, battery life ok – everything working fine, including when i virtually filled all memory on the phone.

Well…….ring ring, ring ring – no vibrate – chk everything on the phone and vibrate should be on. do the *# test – still no vibrate, but thats ok i can live without that.
‘your phone is ready for update’ so i start the update OTA. everything seems fine after update but i notice that some icons look different – in fact they are the missing link icons that android has. Try to open settings and that is one of the missing link icons, press it anyway – error, settings needs to force close. Anything that needs to adjust settings creates a force close.
Well everything else is working fine and i dont need to adjust anything and dont wanna reformat so ill just wait for the ICS update and everything should be rosey. Wait……now there is no data connection – says its turned on but its definately not. there is no way now to turn it on. this is all now becomming a problem.

Turns out friends who i had advised to get this phone all seem to be having problems now with either the screen not working at cirtain places or ring problems, hangs etc

    samsung you’ve done it again……….

ps any info on getting settings back without factory reset would be apprieciated.

      February 19, 2012 at 1:34 pm #

      Hi JAY,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the Samsung. After reviewing all your problem, we think it will be best for you to factory reset it but we would suggest that you back up everything first before you proceed with it.

Back up all the app and the whole phone with the backup app like Titanium Backup and you could easily restore everything as per your existing configuration.

      OR

A much simple solution will be to take your unit back to Samsung Center and ask them to fix it for you.

So that the 2 solutions we could think of, either backup -> factory reset OR Samsung.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike !
I have noticed that on the both sides of the sgs2 box there is ‘I9100′ written at the bottom but my phone is I9100g , so can i replace my phone ? Samsung has clearly cheated me by packing I9100g in I9100 box .

      February 19, 2012 at 11:34 pm #

      Hi Vicky,

Yes, we think you could go to the Samsung Center and request for the replacement or refund. And at the same time you could try to bring up all the issue you currently facing with the unit. With that we think it is more likely they would accept for a replacement or refund you the money.

PS: Do try to call them up first before you go to the Samsung center.

      Regards,
      Mike

        Vicky,

I suggest you to file a case in consumer court and ask for a refund along with compensation. I had the same issue like you (9100G in a box which had 9100 printed on it) ; I contacted samsung customer care and informed them that i am filing a case in cosumer court. The customer care told me that i will be provided a 9100 model or refund. After few days, samsung customer care told me that they will NOT provide me 9100 and will be giving me a full refund. I am very disappointed as i wasted so much of time and did not get my 9100. I shlould have filed a case with consumer court instead to teach samsung a lesson. I have now ordered again a S2 9100 from a different dealer and if i get 9100G inside the box, i am going to consumer court for sure.

      Hi Adi,

Sorry for the late reply. If you could wait a month or 2, I strongly suggest you to wait for the Galaxy S3 which according to the ZDNet Korea, will be made public on this month Mar and launch on April.

That would be a much better deal I think since you will be using the phone for quite sometime. A new and better spec’s smartphone will be a plus point considering the price of SG3 wouldn’t be much different from SG2.

      Thanks

    hi Mike,
I’ve heard from the users of the G version that there are some issues that I want to check if they are true or not ?
1.No Display/Indication Shown When We connect with Charger
2.No Display/ indication missing Unread Text or Message
3.Pop3 Mails are not able to Auto Snyc.
4.No Display / Indication Shown When we connect with other devices. like Bluetooth
    5. the Display colors and the camera picture quality is less than that of i9100

also From I had read, the battery of the G version is not better than non G because of the updating O.S so which phone is better i9100 or i9100G for a user who talks 3 hours daily in the phone and opening the internet browser for 1 hour daily and playing some games for 3o minutes everyday ???
and not rooting the phone only updating the OS.

    please advice me ???

    • Mike
      March 5, 2012 at 8:19 pm #

      Hi mina,

Sorry for the late reply. Pls refer to the reply below:

1.No Display/Indication Shown When We connect with Charger – You mean the percentage battery was charged? i9100 does not display that as well but if you download the battery app you will be able to display the current level of battery.

2.No Display/ indication missing Unread Text or Message – You will be able to view the read/ unread message through the message folder. So that should not be the case.

3.Pop3 Mails are not able to Auto Snyc. – Pop3 mails sync? Hmm… we not sure bout that haven’t tested it in i9100.

4.No Display / Indication Shown When we connect with other devices. like Bluetooth – There should be indicator showing when Bluetooth was connected.

5.the Display colors and the camera picture quality is less than that of i9100. – That what we have heard but not really get a chance to compare both side by side.

Hmm if you really looking to talk 3 hours daily + 1 hour internet + 30 min gaming then we think that both i9100 and i9100G will also be running out of battery pretty fast. Anyway you could always opt for a bigger battery cell or get an extra charger.

But as we always suggest i9100 will be a much better choice. Btw there is rumor claim that Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S3 on this month and release it to the world on April. So if you could wait, Galaxy S3 will be a better choice of all.

      Regards,

    Hi Mike,

I just get my S2 from DIGI-centre about 2weeks ago and i notice that is G version.
(“Andriod Ver 2.3.6 with the Baseband Ver of I9100GDZKL3″)
Everything works well from that day that own a S2 then I discover..
    1. My s2 got hang and lag for sometimes… I just open like 1 or 2 apps but it can hang or lag for some times and then my apps can’t be use and that is the time i need to reboot my phone.
    2. Camera problem like some people had comment in here (“capture few photo then hang at there for some times then after that it need to reboot your phone for the apps to works out”). I facing the same problem and compare to non-G s2,when i capture a photo and click to view it,it takes about 2 to 3 seconds to view it,not like non-G version,it take about 1seconds to view.
    3. When watch video on my phone for like few short music video that transfer from my laptop,(“FLV file”) the video started hang at there and it pops up the “lock icon” on the top of right hand corner on the screen. I can’t exist the program by press back or the center button,i need to press n hold the lock button to pop up the “phone option” then immediately press back for 3 or 4times to exist the program. This problem not occur every-time when I watch video,it happen sometimes.

I kinda disappointing about my S2 G version now because when i bough it,i was new on that and haven know about the version until my friend ask me to root it then i find out this forum.(“I haven root my phone”). Should or can i claim my warranty to change to non-G version??

    • Mike
      March 5, 2012 at 8:44 pm #

      Hi Damon,

We always suggest the user to go through a legal channel, so by claiming the warranty from Samsung instead of rooting it would be a batter option.

And perhaps if Samsung willing to swap a non-G version or refund your money that would be a much better deal.

Btw for your information, Samsung will be coming out with the Galaxy S3 on this or next month.

      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi Sachin,

We would strongly suggest you to get a warranty claim from Samsung on your unit since it is a brand new unit and if possible try to get a refund for that.

Take your unit to the Samsung Center and see what they say about that.

      Regards,
      Mike

        Hi Mike
you ‘ve suggested me to go to the Samsung Center, so i did it. i mentioned them abt my phone problem & they told me that they ‘ll fix it. After 4 days i tooken it yesterday, bt stil having the same problem. Actully i ‘m the new user for Samsung Galaxy so i ‘ve not much knowledge for using abt this. i just want to know that, is there anybody having the same problem wth me? i ‘ve already mentioned abt the problem. Phone hot while i ‘m using the video camera, playing the videos, making the video calls & charging the phone. I ‘m totally fade up wth samsung. i ‘ve one questions why they didn’t fix my problem? if not then they ‘ve to replace me another unit or refund me. ‘m i right mike??? But i haven’t ask them to refund for that coz they promise me to fix the problem but they didn’t. Pls Mike tell me somthing abt the SG 2 G version that why i ‘m having this type of problem.???

          Hi Sachin,

We are experiencing the hot issue with the Galaxy S2 non-G version while taking video, playing the videos, playing games, charging the phone and etc. And it happen to all Galaxy S2 unit. FYI, sometime the temperature could go up to 43 degree Celsius.

But could we understand how ‘hot’ when you mean your SG2 is hot? What is the temp? At least we would be able to make some comparison.

And as we understand the G version should be less hot if compare to the non-G version. Could we have the number?

          Thanks
          Regards,

            Hi Mike

Thanks for reply & mentioned me about the hot issue with the galaxy units. i don’t know about the exact temperature but i think it’s around 50 or 60 degree over. i ‘ve same hot issue with playing videos, taking videos & making video calls. As an example when i taking or playing videos until 5 to 7 minutes there is no hot but after that the unit start to become a hot. The temperature going up …. if i continue to play until 15 to 20 minutes then the temperature going up high … like a i feel the hot it’s 50 to 60 degree over. So what you think on it? Is there any problem ? or it’s just like a normal hot? pls tell me something ..?
Is there, doesn’t have any way to reduce the temperature? i wanna notice you that i don’t have any other issues accept the hot .

            Thanks

    Hi Mike…

I’m using I9100G, Andriod Ver 2.3.6 with the Baseband Ver of I9100GDZKL3 (Non-Root User).

About the camera hang issue, I’ve notice that my phone will pop up message “Camera Failed” if I try to capture photo or just switch from back camera to front camera. Then I have to restart the phone to make the camera working again. But what I’ve really notice is it will become like that after I’ve open Antutu… If I not open the apps (Antutu), the camera works fine for me and I’ve try to capture picture until 32 snap continuously and changing from back camera to front camera without any error. So my conclusion is maybe there are some apps that conflict with the camera software or not compatible. Maybe firmware need to fix bug to solve this issue. So far I’ve only detect the Antutu apps. For those who have camera hang issues, try to detect the apps and uninstall or dont run the apps. Hope this will help for those who have camera issue although have flash L3 firmware.

So guys for those having the ‘Camera Hang/ Failed’ issue with the i9100G try to turn off the Antutu apps or other apps that might cause the software conflict.

      Thanks again Acng.

        Hello Mike / All

I really appreciate all your support and shared Info.
I found a quite usefull information here, which I regret that I did not see it before buying my SG S II i9100G, I’m facing many issues with it since I got it 2 months ago

even I updated to Android 2.3.6 as I had 2.3.5 originaly none of the isse where fixed instead I have one more bug (#3)

1- Camera hangs after couple of shoots, sometimes second shoot some times even I take 24 shots in row without stuck, but i still hate when it happened.
need to be restarted by removing the battery, i tried new camera app but still have same issue.
2-some times my phone is ringing but nothing on the screen just sound of ringing even I unluck the phone still can not see the coming call :( ( “hapened only twice”
3- after i update to 2.3.6 sometimes the Notification Bar where I can pull down to control the WIFI,GPS…etc just disappear from time to time, can not get it back by clearing the RAM or closing all apps, i must restart to have it back.
4- I face problem with 3D display (e.g: Go weather widget) keep stuck while i test it in other phones like no G version or HTC it is normal display, I guess this is due to processor 1008MHZ issue. which i still did not know how to fix it, someone mentioned XLA1 update to be apple to benchmark test CPU upto 1200MHZ, i could not find this update.

My biggest problem that I bought this phone from Libya market where no one gives warranty and the Samsung official dealler are not really upto the worldwide standard, and they will immediatly say you did not buy it from us.

Does that mean I have to live with it and will keep strugling with those bugs untill i buy new phone.
My only wish is to fix those isse in ice cream version and not replace them with new ones

Thank you again for your support

      Hi parmod,

You mean when your SG2 is connected via HDMI Adapter to the TV. The TV failed to output the video from the HDMI?

If that is the case it might most probably be due to the firmware or hardware issue.

      Hi Vicky,

It seem that the phone might have gone corrupted. We have experience the same issue before. By simply restarting the phone or switching the USB debugging mode ON and OFF wont really resolve the issue.

We would highly suggest you to send the unit to Samsung Center.

My Previous Question : I heared about a news that in CMC they are going to launch Nvidia Tegra 2 process which is more speed than the current phones in the market . Is the above information is true. it would be really great if you can help me in this

Your Answer :CMC? U mean Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1?

    Hi Mike ,

I am sorry for being so late to reply ..Its my mistake i mean Mobile World Congress 2012 .they are going to launch Nvidia Tegra 2 process which is more speed than the current phones in the market like “Huawei Ascend D quad
    ” “LG Optimus 4X HD P880
    ” “ZTE Mimosa X
” HTC One X etc .. If so true wn we can expect .. any idea abt the specifications for S3

    • Mike
      March 21, 2012 at 11:27 am #

      Hi Pradeepraj,

Yes so far as we understand the Nvidia Tegra 2 will definitely offer a better spec compare to what current Exynos offer in the Galaxy S2.

But for Galaxy S3, we are pretty sure that it will beat what Nvidia has offered so far.

Do check out our previous post on the expected spec for Galaxy S3 here.

Hi mike thanks for all of the useful info! I just bought a I9100G in Saudi Arabia and had some questions about ICS and Kies. Are there different versions for Kies depending on the region? If there are how do I know I have the right version, and will it affect what updates I get? Also since I own an international unlocked version of the S2, what is the best way to get ICS? Will I need to wait for my region? And will there be a specific version of ICS for the G variant or will there be one version for both? Finally, if I go to America will I need to be careful of anything – such as installing updates only released for the Saudi region instead of the American one?

    • Mike
      March 21, 2012 at 1:20 pm #

      Hi Michael,

First of all, regarding the Samsung Kies – Samsung standardized all the Kies version across world but Samsung somehow control the firmware upgrade according to the CSC code in the phone. Meaning different phone that bought in different region will come with a distinct CSC code and firmware upgrade will be primarily determined by that. (Kies should be the same across the region)

If you desperately looking for the ICS update then probably you could opt to do it manually through Odin. Otherwise you might have to wait until Samsung officially release it for the Saudi Arabia region.

Nope it should be fine even if you are travelling to US as the update will be determined by the CSC setting in your phone.

      Regards,
      Mike

I am from Egypt, i need some help with my Samsung galaxy s II i9100G, it hangs while playing music through the Headphone ar any AUX and Freezes and i hear a sound like Zzzzzzzzzz, also i get a “Camera Failed” error while snapping more than one photo in success, i sent it to Samsung and i got it changed twice, and that’s the third new mobile, with the same problem. So, what should i do? Should i ask them to change it to the normal I9100 or just wait for the ICS OS if it can fix those problems? Finally , is this problem common with many of people ?

Thanks for your help and i am waiting for your reply as soon as possible :)

      Hi Ahmed,
I am from India.. I also faced the same problem with my s2 i9100 G version.. I think it is a common problem with G version..Phone freezing while hearing to music is very annoying.. After i did an update through kies few weeks ago camera problem was solved.. Anyway I wrote a complaint to Samsung about all the problems am facing with G version and told them either to replace it with non G or do refund.. Last week i got call from them.. They told they will replace my G version with non G.. I have handed over my S2 to the service center.. I will most probably get it replaced tomorrow..Hope all my problems will be solved..

      Hi Ahmed,

We heard some users reported the similar issue regarding the hangs and freeze problem while playing the music and taking the photos.

Seem that Samsung failed to get it fix. But we are not sure whether the ICS will be able to fix that but if Samsung could replace you with a brand new trouble-free I9100 then we think is a good option.

Else if you would like to stick with the current unit and see whether it get fixed with the ICS then you might have to wait until Samsung officially make it available in Kies.

      Regards,
      Mike

hi. im going to buy a phone but can u tell me in all aspects which one is better compare to htc sensation xe or SGS2 (g version) as this g version only available on market. n did the s2 g version camera has problem…n where can i find shop that still sell the non g version….. tq

      Hi faris,

HTC Sensation XE indeed has a pretty decent spec compare to Galaxy S2, it dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor in fact is better than the dual-core 1.2GHz Galaxy S2.

Yes, some users reported having some issue with the G version’s camera where it hang after taking a few snapshot. But overall it is still down to a personal preferences whether you should be getting a SG2 or HTC Sensation XE.

On which shop still selling non-G version, we think you should survey around all the phone shop near your area but frankly the chance to get it is pretty slim nowadays as Samsung started to phase in the G version start from Oct’11.

And if you could still wait before getting a new smartphone, then we would suggest you to wait for the Galaxy S3 which schedule to be announced to either next 1 or 2 months time.

      Regards,
      Mike

i read something about the performance and the htc is lower compared to sgs2….is it the lower performance shows tht the htc not perform well, i mean not running very smooth or in what aspect did the lower performance means. n wht is ur personal choice or which one would u prefer for both devices since u r an expert in this things and all of ur posts is very helpful….thanks again

          Hi faris,

So far as what we heard the HTC does indeed perform better/ on par with what Samsung offer. Btw since the quad-core’s HTC One has been released maybe you would like to consider that as well…

If I still yet the SG2 for sure will go for the quad-core HTC or might just wait for a better spec’s Galaxy S3.

        hi mike

1st off all, thanks for yr advice n it really useful for me. before and after i buy this phone.
sgs2 is my dream phone since it release in 2011.. i just bought it last week..
        i bought a G version.
so far all the game I’ve download working really fine
        -contract killer
        -asphalt 6 hd
        -blood n glory
        -pes 2012
        -lets golf 3
        -all out war
        =guerilla bob
        -six guns
        -bia 2 free

but almost everyday my phone will hang.i need to restart it back
shame for a phone running 1.2GHz. my late Huawei Ideos x5 more better.
is it will effect my phone if i always force it to restart like that everyday ?
what is the main reason it always hang ? is it bcoz of CPU ?
and 2 apps that i install always force close
        - speedtest,net
        - realcalc

did u know how can i complaint to SAMSUNG ?
I hope it will b better if my sgs2 G got ICS..
When Malaysian SGS2 will get ICS update ?

          April 5, 2012 at 9:53 pm #

          Hi Zamry,

First of all thanks for update us the list of apps that work fine with I9100G and thanks for the compliment.

So far based on our experience with i9100, the hang issue are mainly due to the app’s compatibility with the firmware and hardware used in the device.

We not really recommend that you restart your phone everyday as for smartphone or any of the tablets out there it mean to work fine for a long hours prior to any restart. We not sure whether it might cause any hardware/ software issue in long term.

Have you tried to turn off some of the apps that you have installed so far and see if the problem go away?

Think you could just call up Samsung hotline or file a complaint at the Samsung Center regarding the problem you currently facing.

Yep, maybe Samsung has already address all the issue with the upcoming ICS update. About when Malaysia will get the update, we think it might be within this month but nothing for sure until Samsung finally make it available in the Kies.

We will keep you posted if we have any info on the ICS update for SG2.

          Regards,
          Mike

    Hi Mike !!!
My phone shows custom binary counts (2) and current binary – samsung official ,,, Does this void warranty ?

    • Mike
      April 5, 2012 at 10:04 pm #

      Hi Vicky,

Have you update your phone manually through Odin before? If that is the case then ‘yes’, it might void your warranty if you return the unit with an incremental counter.

You need to offset the counter if you ever consider to return it to Samsung if you ever manually flash in the firmware.

    hello everyone,

I got this G model replaced once and now it has been again sent to service center. I’ll be having it after two days. I have spoiled my one month and got zero% satisfaction. Everyone is saying that non-G is better than G model, are there any positive aspects of the G model what I’m unable to see. There is lagging problem in G model, some times its camera fails, it got hanged real easily, when ever I play music, it skips in between which is really frustrating. Should I seek help from consumer court ??

      Hi Manu,

Think it will be hard case if you planning to take a legal action against Samsung and they might just drag the whole process through time.

So in our opinion it will be good if you could seek a full refund on the unit.

      Thanks

    Hi Mike,

I bought I9100G (G-version) S2 two weeks ago having firmware 2.3.4 (I9100GDZKH5)…. today when i connected my S2 with Kies, i got to know that a firmware update 2.3.6 (KK2) is available for my S2… now i have some queries..

(1)— Should i go for the firmware upgarde to 2.3.6 (KK2)..?? your recommendation…?
(2)— Will i loose 1 year warranty for my S2 after firmware upgarde via Kies…???
(3)— Which sort of improvements and issues i could experience after upgrade to (KK2) firmware..???

Anticipating usual support from your side.

    Thanks & Best Regards

      Hi Shahid,

(1)— Should i go for the firmware upgarde to 2.3.6 (KK2)..?? your recommendation…? We think that since ICS will be releasing soon to the Kies worldwide, you could wait further to initiate the update if possible. As so far what we experience, the isn’t much improvement in term of functionality from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6.

(2)— Will i loose 1 year warranty for my S2 after firmware upgarde via Kies…??? Nope you won’t as it is official 1 from Samsung instead of you manually updating it.

(3)— Which sort of improvements and issues i could experience after upgrade to (KK2) firmware..??? As spell out in the whitepaper, you might experience the improvement in term of the following area:

      Bug Fixed with 2.3.6

      • The update addresses the issues surrounding the locked screen hang bug.
        Fixed a voice search bug.

      Improvement with 2.3.6

      • Enhance boots up speed of the phone.
      • Increases the phone’s HSPA connection speed.
      • Changes the camera Interface.
      • Enhanced the phone’s security and boosts the phone’s performance.

Hope that answer your questions and thanks for your visit.

      Regards,
      Mike

    hi mike,

can i know which one of these phones is better ?

HTC sensation XE and samsung galaxy s2 (I9100 or I9100G)

btw I had seen some videos comparing between them and s2 is better in the battery life and the screen,
although the XE runs with 1.5 Ghz, it’s slower than s2 ( that’s what i had seen in videos )
Do the Capacity of Ram affects in that ??

      Hi Bryan,

We are experiencing the issue with the I9100 (firmware 2.3.6) as well for some of the songs especially those with a high bass.

You could try it with some of the not-so-high bass song and see if the problem go away.

      Hi Dick,

Think the most important 1 would be the battery optimization app e.g. Juice Defender or Easy Battery Saver.

Then the rest of the app would be up to your own personal preferences, you could browse for it in the Google Play.

      Hi Dilek,

Yes, for sure Samsung will be able to get it done.

Anyway we suspected that the Kies might have gone corrupted and it happened often to us that some of the PC with Kies will be able to detect phone while some failed.

We are still looking for possible solution to resolve the issue.

My phone is not yet replaced.. But they called me yesterday and told me that every replacement will take 15 – 20 working days and apologized for the delay.. They told they will provide set as soon as they get conformation from headquarters.. That hang issue while listening to music i think is a common problem with s2 G version.. My camera also showed “camera failed ” but on my last update that problem was solved.. But that headset problem.. Mmmm.. i know it is very frustrating yarrrr.. I had that problem the day i brought the set( Jan 5).. I don’t think that going to service center will do any good.. They will do factory reset but the same problem will persist.. Let us hope that ICS update will fix that problem.. I hope that the same problem will not happen when i get the replaced non-G version.. I will let you know when i get replaced set.. K..

    Hi Mike,

I went through your analysis and as you stated on the G version where CPU is capped at 1008.

    1. Do you really think that developers has ever built actual apps which will use 1.2 full resource? i doubt ther are no apps out there which is for dual cores.

    2. I see my I9100G has used 1.2 upto 20% till now.

    3. I am also eagerly waiting for ICS, will be happy to know if there is any tentative month

I somewhere doubt that reviewer’s out there failed to check whether there are any true apps built for dual cores.

For all G users out there, even i am also a victim of sammy’s failed in informing about G version as i dont see as I9100G on my box, it still shows I9100.

So, All G users out there dont think G version’s CPU is capped at 1008 play NFS RUN and check your CPU usage i will bet it would shoot up your CPU usage, i see my G version S2 has used 1.2 for 20%.

    Cheers…!!!!

      Hi Rajath,

Please refer to the reply below:

      1. Do you really think that developers has ever built actual apps which will use 1.2 full resource? i doubt ther are no apps out there which is for dual cores.
A: Yes, we fully agree that most of the time the apps not really need to run at 1.2GHz, just some of those CPU resources intensive apps might be using up to the upper limit of the processor.

      2. I see my I9100G has used 1.2 upto 20% till now.
A: Yes and we believe that it apply the same for I9100 as we not really need 1.2GHz to run a Facebook app, WhatsApp, Emailing or calling.

      3. I am also eagerly waiting for ICS, will be happy to know if there is any tentative month
A: As we understand so far there is no official notice from Samsung regarding the actual release date but that kind of slow as US’s Galaxy S2 already start to get the update but most countries in Asia still stay in the dark.

That the kind of marketing stuff, they made the changes but never informed the consumer as a whole.

Hopefully we not going to see a similar case in the Samsung Galaxy S3.

      Mike

    Hi Mike,
I thought I want to buy s2 this week but i got a few questions

    1. after update s2 to ICS.which 1 is better G version or non-G?
    2. is there are better phone than s2 which have same price range like s2?

p.s I cant afford to buy s3 T_T.maybe waiting for another year lol

      April 25, 2012 at 10:16 pm #

      HI Lynn,
      1. And yes finally the ICS is available for the galaxy s2 but only for the GT-i9100, GT-i9100M, GT-i9100P but not for the GT-i9100G at present.
      2. In my opnion, the only phones that are better than the s2 are the similar ones like the nexus and the note but unfortunately they are more expensive than the S2. If u want a phone that has similar performance with the s2 at a lower price, u should consider looking into the htc section

      April 28, 2012 at 11:12 pm #

      Hi Lynn,

      1. So far as what we have heard the ICS will work great for the g version but we unable to verify the fact that how good will it be. Bottom line we still prefer the non-G version as it cause less issue compare to G version.

      2. Currently should be the HTC Sensation XE or you could try the quad-core HTC One X but it will cause you an additional of $100 USD or more.

    Hi Mike

Why it is that GT I9100G is not even listed in Samsung Apps store while the original I9100 is listed. I tried selecting Galaxy S2 but the apps dint get transferred. Quite upset that, Samsung stopped selling non G version in India, yet they don’t support G version in Samsung apps.

      Hi Vinodh,

Hmm… so far from what we understand the GT-I9100G was introduced to the market as a replacement for GT-I9100 but so far Samsung has yet to make any official announcement regarding the changes.

So in our wild guess, Samsung will still be using the GT-I9100 instead of the GT-I9100G into its app lists.

I bought Galaxy S2(9100G) in march.
Let i want to know that samsung launch Galaxy S2 G version.why?????
Why samsung not launched only one moedel(9100)
It may be particular reason for launching 9100G.something new in G version that is not in 9100.the question is that what creative feautures or specification installed by samsung in G version.???????exept GPU…i.e. In 9100(4210)…in 9100G(4430).

      Hi talhakapadia,

As what we have heard so far the Samsung is running out of the Exynos chip and that the main reason behind the use of TI’s 4430 chip in the SG2.

Something new in G? Not really so far we have not observed anything new in the TI’s 4430 in I9100G compare to Exynos 4210 in I9100.

And another reason might be Samsung is running out of line capacity to produce it own Exynos chip so they just opted to use the Texas Instrument’s instead.

      Regards,
      Mike

      Hey Midhun,

Its nice to here this from you, congrats . I have got this I9100G model in the box of I9100 and now they would be replacing g model with non-g model , could you tell me the difference between these models after using your non -g model ? I don’t want it to happen again, i mean this g model is not good at all but yeah i don’t know non-g model’s performance either. How can i trust that model too. I can’t fool myself the third time. It would be great if you could really tell me about new model’s performance.

      Thanxs

        Hey Manu,
I am really happy with the new non-G version of Galaxy s2.. Except the one month delay in replacing my set, i am very much satisfied with Samsung.. I think all the problems i faced with G version is gone forever.. Noticeable change is non-G version are:
        1. The camera of the G version s2 used to show a message ” Camera failed” almost everyday since i brought it.. I wont be able to take photo till i restart the set.. That is not the case with non-G.. It doesn”t have any problems even after taking 20 or 30 photos continuously.. Also i think picture quality has improved.. I felt G version camera was bit darker.. I don’t how to tell that.. You have to see it yourself.. I don’t know.. I may be wrong.. But the size of photo taken in G version was like 1 to 1.5 mb even after setting the resolution to 8M.. But in the case of non-G size is between 3 Mb and 4 Mb.. So i think its a fact that non-G version has a better camera than G version..
        2. Like many, i like listening to music.. With G version it was quite annoying.. While listening to music through headset , the set will freeze and make a Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound through the headset.. I just hated it like hell.. With non-G version that problem is solved..
        3. Screen mode in G version does not change in G version.. But in non-g, we have 3 modes: Dynamic , standard, movie thereby fully utilizing our beautiful super amoled plus screen..
        4. G version have hanging problem.. Although there are very few hangs in non-G, it does not hang like G version.. Does not lag while opening application and all..
        5. Main advantage of G version with non-G was overheating and battery.. But I don’t have that problem at all.. My android version is GB 2.3.6.. It does not heat much even when playing games or browsing internet through Wifi.. Battery is also same as G version.. Now my mobile is running without charging for 1 day and 15 hours.. Still 23% battery is left.. Its cool for a smart phone right ..

Any way I am just loving this non-G version.. I don’t have any complaint about this beauty from Samsung.. I think above details will help in knowing the difference between two sets.. Hope you will get the set without much delay..

          Manu,
I don’t think there is any need to ask for refund.. Go and get that non-G version.. You will feel the difference.. You will enjoy it.. This is what i think..
