hi I have updated to 2.3.5 I used to kies to update to this, however as Malik my kies wont say there is an update to 2.3.6

        Hi Kunal,

As we noted Samsung release the 2.3.6 update according to the region you belong to. So far Samsung has made the update available to the Asia Pacific region but not to other part of the world through Kies.

But we doubt that Samsung will go ahead with the release as they will launch the ICS for Galaxy S2 pretty soon. (either this month or next)

        Regards,
        Mike

      Hi ridzuan,

Could we know whether your SG2 is I9100 or I9100G. So far with I9100 non-G + Android 2.3.6 = work perfectly fine at our side.

If the problem persist we suggest you to take your unit the Samsung Center, probably the firmware get corrupted. And they can fix it for you right away.

Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year 2012-:)

      Hi bent,

We are not sure whether the update take place according to region. So far at Malaysia, the Samsung Kies somehow just prompted for update into Android 2.3.6 when we plugged in our unit.

But our initial firmware prior to the update is Android 2.3.3.

Thanks for drop by and Happy New Year 2012-:)

I live in USA but have just bought a samsung galaxy s2 From UK.
It is on 2.3.4 and I want to update it to the latest firmware but not sure how. Help

    • Mike
      January 2, 2012 at 12:37 am #

      Hi Claire,

We are not sure whether the I9100 that your purchase in UK does subject to the firmware upgrade limitation by the operator. But you can soon find out whether it is upgradable through the Samsung Kies by going through the following upgrade step:

      1. Go to Samsung Kies website here and download the latest Kies software. (We are pointing you to the Samsung UK site since your unit is from UK but there shouldn’t be any different with Kies from other country’s Samsung site)

      2. After that plug your I9100 in your computer and the Kies software will be able to detect if there is any latest firmware that you can upgrade. The software will prompt for an upgrade if there is any newer version.

Let us know if you having any problem during the process OR it is claiming that it has the latest version. We will guide you through the upgrade process with IDIN ~ manual way.

Thanks for your visit and Happy New Year 2012 -:)
      Regards,
      Mike

Could you retry the upgrade process by connecting your phone in the Kies again? Cause sometime when there is any interruption during the upgrade process the firmware upgrade process will be halted.

    Hi there,

I am using Galaxy S2 i9100 G version. You said in your post that the firmware update to Android 2.3.6 came out months ago for the G version.

I have bought my device 2 days ago. Installed the latest version of Kies “2.1.1.11124_17″ but when i pulgin the device for firmware update it says this is the latest firmware.

Currently I am running Android 2.3.4 and bought the device from Pakistan

    • Mike
      January 2, 2012 at 3:29 pm #

      Hi Wahaab JB,

Hmm… Yes currently the latest batch of all the I9100G were installed with the updated version of Android 2.3.6 in fact few of my friends just bought it last few days and it does come with Android 2.3.6 firmware.

We’r not sure whether Samsung control the firmware update based on the region. Currently all/ most of the I9100G in Malaysia does come the latest Android 2.3.6.

We suggest you to wait until Samsung finally enable the latest Android firmware in the Samsung Kies to get your unit upgraded except your current Android 2.3.4 is buggy and need to be upgraded immediately. Then we only recommended you using the Odin (manual update) to get it updated.

Happy New Year & Wishing you have a wonderful year ahead-:)

Thanks for the answer, I am new to Android so is there any guide for updating to 2.3.6 manually? . Also by manually updating, would it be like the official update? meaning it will have no bugs or anything?

Also if future updates are available from Kies, will I be able to upgrade from their(Lets say Ice Cream Sandwich comes).

If not, does manually updating deliver the same experience which you get by official update?

        • Mike
          January 4, 2012 at 10:50 pm #

          Hi Wahaab JB,

You may follow the manual update to 2.3.6 through this YouTube link. Yes it should be working like an official update. In term of bug during the update we think if should be safe to get it updated manually although we still suggest you to wait for Samsung official’s release in Kies to be available.

Yes you will be able to get it updated t ICS even if you upgraded through the manual mode.

In term of performance of the manual and auto update, we think it should be the same as both the firmware are officially release from Samsung but updated through different way.

          Regards,
          Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have SGS2 I9100G. Is the official upgrade to 2.3.6 available for this model in India?
Will updating to this version fix the issue with my phone camera hang issue while taking pics?

    • Mike
      January 4, 2012 at 11:17 pm #

      Hi Manny,

Yes, so far I have tested my friend’s I9100G with the latest 2.3.6 seem that no hang/ freeze issue with the camera while taking photos. Seem that the reported issue has been resolved with the Android 2.3.6. We are not sure whether the upgrade is available in India’s Samsung Kies maybe you could hook your unit up the PC and check out if the Kies software prompt for any upgrade message. So far Android 2.3.6 has been reloaded to all the I9100G unit retailed in Malaysia since Nov 2011 so we think that India should get it in no time.

In the mean while you may also follow the step below which claim could resolve the camera hang issue:

      1. Clear all the data in your camera by go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > All > Camera and clear data.

      2. Turn off anti-freeze. It is believe that the camera will freeze when it was set at 8 MB resolution with anti-shake turned it on.

      3. Factory reset the phone. If you not sure how to do it, please follow the instruction here.
Notes: This will wipe your phone and return it to its out-of-the-box state.

      Hope that answer your question.

Thanks for your visit and wish you have a great year ahead-:)

Will clear data option delete my pics taken using the camera? When I select it, I get a message saying ‘all of this application’s data will be deleted, including all files, settings, accounts, databases etc’.

In your opinion, is it worth going for 2.3.6 version upgrade, coz in near future, we might get ICS 4.0 upgrade for SGS2?

        • Mike
          January 6, 2012 at 1:46 pm #

          Hi Manny,

Hmm… in our opinion if you not using the camera as often and not really experiencing the hang issue then we not really recommend you to clear all your data in the phone.

And as you have mentioned, ICS – Android 4.0 will be out real soon so is it really worth your time of trying to reconfigure all your data again?

          Hope that answer your question.

I upgraded to 2.3.6 on 27th December on my S2 through kies. There is vast improvement like extended battery life, but there are two bugs that i have found. One is the camera, the picture quality isn’t good as compared to my previous version 2.3.3. On the phone it might look decent, but when I transfer it to my PC the quality is pathetic. I experimented with exposure, ISO, etc. but got similar results. The other bug I found was in the application menu icons. If I manually edit and rearrange my icons in my seven menu screens, it happens with no problems, but after a few hours or so, the icons go back to their previous locations. And I have to repeat the whole process again and again. Am I the only person with this issue or are there others as well, and is there a solution for this one.

        • Mike
          January 11, 2012 at 10:52 pm #

          Hi Shaiju Bhaskar,

We did observe that the file size of the photos taken by Android 2.3.6 indeed became smaller compare to the one taken by the Android version 2.3.3 and that might explain the reason of the lower image quality. But so far that is not a big issue for us as we always trying to slim down the photo size in order to accommodate for the faster transfer.

We not sure whether there will be another Android 2.3.7 that will fix the bug or Samsung might just resort to the latest Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich.

We will keep you posted if we found anything.

          Regards,
          Mike

            Hi Mike,

This isn’t just smaller picture size, the pictures clicked. The pictures clicked are grainyre grainy, specially in low light conditions. I guess the problem is with exposure and shutter timing.

          Hi Roberto,

In our guess Samsung might either release the latest 2.3.6 to the Hungary’s Kies or they might just hold it as currently they are in the process of developing the Android 4.0 ICS to the SG2. FYI, Sammy has already released the beta version Android 4.0.3 to the SG2 and they might just go ahead to enable the ICS upgrade in Kies instead of the latest Gingerbread.

          Regards,
          Mike

      Hi dexy,

You could plug in your device to the latest updated version of Samsung Kies in your PC and check if the program prompt for any firmware upgrade?

And you could directly upgrade your Samsung Galaxy S2 if it prompt for update.

      Thanks for your visit.

    hi,

since i am techie guy and i tried to update the latest firmware 2.3.6 for sg2 thru kies. initally i was not able to update has it used to say firmware stopped but today i was able to update it.

best thing is that my data was as it is. there is some difference i saw that is.

the homescreen has 7 panes and after 7 panes you swipe further it will automatically to pane 1.

in the lock screen, when you charging the phone you will see the charge status just below the date and time.

at the end of the list for example in contacts at the end of the last contact if you try to scroll down you will see a blue colour at the end a big one, the same goes at the top of the page. i found it cool actually

    camera has little bit change

    little faster in swyping

the swype is changed a bit, a thicker line and the word prompt is also changed.

these are the few things i have found out now and will update you more once i found them…

      Hi Andrias,

It seem that Samsung has yet to release the Android 2.3.6 in the Kies for the Denmark version’s Galaxy S2.
We suggest you to wait for the official release to be available in the the Samsung Kies OR you can update it manually through the Odin.

      Hi ed,

So far from what we found out the problem could be resolved by re-configuring the CSC code of the country. You may follow the steps below on how to change the CSC code of your phone:

1st Method – Changing CSC Code

      1. Check your IMEI with this code on the dialer, *#06#, and save it as you’ll need. (15 digits code)
      2. Then, type on the dialer, *#272*???????????????# (??????????????? it’s your IMEI, it must have 15 digits), after you can choose your region CSC, then it’ll reboot (it may take some time, you’ll see bootloader applying the changes), you’ll have to do the initial configuration and it’s done!

Note: BEWARE! after you install new CSC it will factory data automatically, but after that you can update your phone via Kies.

2nd Method – Changing CSC Code

      1. Goto Android Market and download & install the app SGS CSC Selector.
      2. Select the CSC according to your region.

      CSC code according to region:
      OPS – Australia (YES OPTUS)

          Hi Krenth,

Yes, it appear that Samsung no fully release the 2.3.6 across the world and some part of the region get it while some no.

Anyway if you thinking of getting the latest firmware, we suggest you to wait until Samsung officially get the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich available officially in Kies. Since it is a better upgrade version compare to Android 2.3.6.

          Regards,
          Mike

      Hi author,

Seem that the phone firmware might get corrupted during the upgrade process. There are 2 method which you could try:

      1. Send the unit back the Samsung Center and ask them to resolve it for you.

      2. Manually upgrade the firmware through Odin. You might follow the instruction from the XDA Forum here on how to perform it.

      We hope that help.

Yesterday Kies told me there was a new firmware upgrade to install. I accepted doing it, so it backed-up some of my data and started the installation. The progress bar remained at 0% for more than 40 minutes and I became suspicious that it was not working. I tried interrupting with the cancel button and that didn’t work, so the only way was to remove the cable (yes there were warnings not to do it… still I assumed that this scenario would have been foreseen). Kies woke up with the interruption and asked if I wanted to do an emergency firmware recovery, I said yes and proceeded with it. It gave me some instructions to switch off the phone, replace battery, and remove the cable. I switched the phone off and on again and there appeared a symbol representing the loss of connection to the PC, so I re-connected. The recovery started fine, but half way through it, it failed due to a problem on the phone. Since then the phone is dead. It won’t start anymore… tried replacing battery and it’s still dead… anyway out of this?? What can I do??

    • Mike
      January 11, 2012 at 11:42 pm #

      Hi phoebe,

It seem that the firmware not completely flashed and only partially of it is loaded to the phone’s flash memory. You could either send your phone to Samsung Center and ask them to get make your unit alive without charge OR you may try the following step from XDA Developer:

1)Uninstall and Re-Install Kies and Samsung Mobile Device Driver
2)Left your phone connected on flash screen of death through the process and on loading ODIN it connected perfectly right away
3)Set PDA to ROM and flashed.
4)Reflashed as per normal routine again due to boot loop this time in download mode.
5)Factory Reset via Recovery Mode to force CSC update to match ROM
6)*When it arrives use USB jig to re-set flash counter to 0*
      via XDA Developer

      We hope that help.
      Regards,
      Mike

Hi i am from malaysia. But i dont get any update to 2.3.6. mine is 2.3.4. And for those who has pc studio problem go to setting , application the development. turn off usb debugging.

      January 15, 2012 at 2:58 am #

      Hi Hairulhaziq,

Could I know whether your phone is I9100 or I9100G? But so far in Malaysia, both of the model I9100 and I9100G have received the update for Android 2.3.6 firmware.

      I9100G – received update on Oct 2011
      I9100 – received update on Dec 2011

So your Samsung Kies does not prompt for the update? Hmm… Another easier way will be to walk in Samsung Center and them to upgrade it for you.

Thanks for the tip on the PC Studio. And let us know if you manage to get through.

      January 15, 2012 at 3:03 am #

      Hi Nameless,

The Android 2.3.6 update indeed has been available in Malaysia:

      I9100G – received update on Oct 2011
      I9100 – received update on Dec 2011

You can just plugin your Galaxy S2 to your computer which has been installed with Samsung Kies and follow the update instruction. Let us know if you having problem to initialize it.

And since you in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, another simple way would be to walk in the Samsung Center and ask them to get it updated FOC.

      Thanks for the visit btw.

      Mike

Mike, seems like you are pro here, i am from malaysia too, I have a friend and cousin who use i9100G 2.3.6
My cousin one with following info. (not sure my friend one)
    Kernel 2.3.35.7
    Baseband I9100GDZKJ2
    Build Number GINGERBREAD.DZKJ2
They are facing the same problem, where by sometimes taking photo the phone will freeze, and sometimes the phone will shutdown itself or restart itself, and sometimes when started, they can’t see any apps or homescreen running, is just a blank screen or wall paper, they tried to restart it but failed, at last they need to remove battery to make it back to normal,
Just wish to ask, is this a known issue? is there any fix for now?
    thanks

    • Mike
      January 15, 2012 at 3:20 am #

      Hi Anson,

Thanks for the compliment but I am not regarding myself as pro but just a Samsung Galaxy S2 fanboy like the rest of SG2 lover.
That seem to be some issue with the unit. Does it showing the symptom after the firmware upgrade or it just behave like this when they bought it?

And for photo taking, you mean continuously taking photos? It hang after taking approximately how many photos?

Some of the users did report that they are facing the issue as what you has been observed on your friends and cousin unit. But so far I have personally tested my friend’s I9100G seem that everything just work perfectly.

I would suggest to get the unit back to Samsung Center and ask them to repair it or get a new replacement unit.

      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi Gautam,

Sorry for the late reply. could you try the following step from XDA Developer:

1)Uninstall and Re-Install Kies and Samsung Mobile Device Driver
2)Left your phone connected on flash screen of death through the process and on loading ODIN it connected perfectly right away
3)Set PDA to ROM and flashed.
4)Reflashed as per normal routine again due to boot loop this time in download mode.
5)Factory Reset via Recovery Mode to force CSC update to match ROM
6)*When it arrives use USB jig to re-set flash counter to 0*
      via XDA Developer

*Notes: Try to perform each step once and see whether it work.

      We hope that help.

      Hi Rajasi Desai,

How about with the phone connected to the PC using the USB? Can it be updated?

Normally we not recommend the WiFi or OTA way of upgrade as you won’t know if there any interruption during the whole upgrade process and it might just cause your phone to brick.

      Hi phoebe,

Glad you manage to get it resolve. Ok regarding the current issue that you currently facing, here is some quick fix that we found:

      1. Create a new Gmail account.
      2. Go to Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add Account > Google.
      3. Added the new account by putting in the new e-mail address and the password.
      4. Go to Android Market and accept all the Term and Condition.
      5. You could either use the 2nd account which you have created or go to “Accounts & Sync” and deleted the second account

*Notes: You don’t have to perform factory reset to resolve the issue.

      Hope that help.

    Hi, Mike

    I’m from Nepal

Recenty i update my samsung galaxy s gt i9003 successfully froyo to gingerbread with kies on 11.01.2012, after that the whenever mobile is not in use for one or 2 hour (generally at night time) it starts to reboot then i have to do soft reboot or remove battery , it erase all my backup contact, message and short cut at screen and make bettary empty.
I have to follow the procedure just like the factory reset time.
So i went to authorized samsung service centre, they flash and re update on 13.01.2012 to current firmware version i9003ddkp2/i9003oddkpg/i9003ddkp3/i9003ddkp2(npl)and assure it will be all ok.

But still the problem is same and having the troble again again.

Now when i connect to kies it notify “your device does not support software upgrading via kies.”

Any suggestion, what to do to solve that problem?

    Rgds,
    Binod

    • Mike
      January 17, 2012 at 12:27 am #

      Hi Jure,

You could probably try to connect your I9100 to the PC which has been installed with Samsung Kies then check if the software prompt for any firmware update.

So far as we understand, Samsung has only released the Android 2.3.6 for I9100 non-G to few countries. You might want to try up the step above.

    Dear Mike,

Went through each of ur detailed solns to everyones probs! Great job.

Mine is the same as quite a few above. My sg2 is on 2.3.3. Kies keeps telling me to upgrade it to 2.3.6. However been trying to do it (believe it or not) for past two weeks…each day about 4-5 times. Gives a host of errors ranging from cell not detected to firmware upgrade failed to Operation timed out. Have already tried thrice today..n got the most success.. reached 33%. First n foremost.. noticed a RIDICULOUS thng abt samsung. If the upgrade requires no interuption throughout the process.. then it should automatically block all incoming calls/msgs..however it doesnt do so! I recd a call..which i didnt accept…bt still the upgrade failed n i hd to restart all over again!

As I type this msg.. I have reached 38%. So hoping for the best. However after reading through the above complaints/responses.. I am not sure I am doing the right thng by upgrading my firmware to 2.3.6 or not.. cos I was pretty happy with 2.3.3. Dont want my phone to behave erratic as is being experienced by many other users (esp the camera quality n frequent auto rebooting) :(

    • Mike
      January 19, 2012 at 12:47 am #

      Hi Shamit,

Don’t worry about the upgrade as you could always downgrade it if you feel that Android 2.3.3 is better.

So you could probably tried out the latest version and if you don’t like it then revert it back using the Odin through manual update.

      Just keep your finger cross-:)

      Mike

    Mike,

Thanks for your concern. I have try to do a research among the Samsung galaxy S and S2 users.

Hypothesis: As long samsung users with Gingerbread >2.3.5 upgraded to your hp to latest firmware and the latest android market (ver. 3.4.4), you will having the same problem

    This is my result:

S users: after they upgrade to gingerbread 2.3.6 , they got the same problem.

S2 users: Non G version have this pro after upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.6. G version user started to have this problem with the version of 2.3.5.

This are the result for my research. I not sure other region having the similar problem?

Mike do you have this pro?

      Hi Xavier,

Sorry for the late reply been away for Chinese New Year holiday.

Thanks for the input. Maybe you are right so far I haven’t updated the phone to the latest revision of the Android Market yet. It might be the Android ver 2.3.6 and Android Market ver 3.4.4 that causing the issue.

Hmm… I try check if it is possible to downgrade the Android Market OR another way might be to downgrade the firmware revision to a lower version of 2.3.3.

      Thanks for the input again.

      January 24, 2012 at 4:55 pm #

      Hi rubi,

Sorry for the late reply, am away for the Chinese New Year holiday.

Ok back to the question, our wild guess is that probably the firmware 2.3.6 has yet to be available in the Korea version of I9100. If you really desperate for the update we suggest you to just do it manually through Odin instead of changing the CSC code as it will wipe off all your data in the phone.

About the Android 4.0 ICS, so far Samsung already release some of the beta version to the world but due to the stability of the early beta version we STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU TO WAIT for the official release from Samsung.

PS: Let us know if you need the manual instruction on how to upgrade the firmware through Odin.
      Thanks for your visit btw.

    Hi Mike,

I have gone to almost all of your comments . Still my problem is similar to majority of the people. PLEASE HELP ME

My phone was working perfectly fine on 2.3.3 . But after i upgraded it to 2.3.5 . Whenever I press the HOME key,

-First icons and widgets don’t appear on the home screen
-they appear one by one slowly and it took about 2 minutes to load completely
-Contact list has become extremely slow and often hangs sometime
-the sequence of icons in the APPLICATIONS MENU is always RANDOMIZED after every reboot. I have to customize it every time . I am sick of arranging them again and again.
-I have done quite a lot of apps . May be device has become slow due to this(a silly though)
-yesterday, device get restarted again and again. for about half an hours. I manged to solve this by converting to Go launcher and uninstalling a lot of apps. and then restarted. It is still giving all those upper problems , but rebooting again and again has been

2.3.6 has not been available of upgrade in my country Pakistan.

I am very confused what to do. I really don’t want to restore factory settings as it will wipe all my data.

please suggest me something better to do.

      Hi Abdul Rehman,

Sorry for the late reply been away for Chinese New Year holiday.

The only solution we could think of if you not opting to reset the phone is to re-flash the firmware manually through Odin and see if the problems do go away.

Else we suspect that it might be caused by overflow of app running at the background. Could you check what is the memory status of your phone but again we think it is the firmware since per your input it was running smoothly previously on 2.3.3.

      Regards,

Thanks a lot for the reply. I have removed some battery saving apps and most apps that run in background . Now it is working perfectly fine. Sometimes, it holds for about 1 second or less , but it is bearable. I think the problem was due to the bulk of apps.

        Thanks.

From your statement it seem that Samsung has yet to officially release the update to Egypt’s Kies. You might have to wait until Samsung finally make it available OR another simple way would be to do it through manual way – Odin. Btw Samsung is on the move to release the Android 4.0 ICS to the SG2 – (currently still in beta mode), so be expected the see the ICS powered’s SG2 real soon.

Mike, I have the latest samsung kies, but I have android 2.3.4 and kies says that this is the latest version, why?
    P.S.: I am in Romania.

      January 24, 2012 at 6:00 pm #

      Hi Adinaky,

Samsung make the release according to the region the phone in. So that mean Samsung has not yet officially make available the 2.3.6 to the Romanian’s Kies.

If you really looking for the update probably you could resort to use the manual way through Odin.

      Regards,

      Hi Israel,

Does you facing the hang issue with an earlier version of firmware?

We suggest you to go ahead with the upgrade if it is available otherwise you could try to get the phone back to Samsung Center and ask them to fix it.

      OR

You could try to flash in the firmware manually through Odin and see if the problem go away.

      Regards,
      Mike

        Hi mike,

I just bought the phone with this version so I haven’t tried an earlier version..

do you know if this update you mention in newer than the one I got?
because trough kies it says that there is no newer version..
I also found this version do you know if it is convenient to upgrade to this one?(http://androidadvices.com/update-samsung-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100-ics-android-40-xxkp1-firmware/)

if not, coul you send me a link to try the manual upgrade please.

        Thank You

          Hi Israel,

So your current I9100 revision is 2.3.6? Then it should be the latest one. Hmm… on the upgrade to Android 4.0 we think it will be good to wait until Samsung’s official release before you flash it in the phone.

But if you really would like to go with it, the latest revision would be XXLP6 (4.0.3). You could follow the full instruction from XDA Developer here.

          Base Firmware: I9100XXLP6 (4.0.3)
          Build Date: 17th January 2012
          Modem: XXLP6
          CSC: OXXLP3
          Change List: 72050
          Kernel Version: 3.0.15
          Chainfire’s CF-Root XXLP6

    Dear mike,
i am from saudi arabia and i ve GT I 9100 G MODEL GLAXY S2. THE FIRMWARE VERSION IS 2.3.5. I TRIED THROUGH KIES TO UPDATE, IT IS TELLING “LATEST FIRMWARE INSTALLED”.

I TRIED TO CHECK WHETHER ANY SOFTWARE UPDATE AVAILABLE THROUGH ABOUT PHONE- SOFTWARE UPDATE, I RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:
    “CONNECTION FAILED.:.

OTHER THINGS ARE WORKING FINE IN MY PHONE , NEED UR EXPERT ADVICE TO UPDATE MY PHONE FIRMWARE TO 2.3.6.

      January 27, 2012 at 3:17 pm #

      Hi Feroz,

It seem that from the message shown, Samsung has yet to make available the Android 2.3.6 to the Saudi Arabia’s unit. If you really want to get the update prior to the Samsung official release in Kies, we recommend you to do it manually through Odin.

But so far as we could observe there is minor changes in 2.3.6 compare to 2.3.3 for I9100. If your phone really causing you the headaches of hanging or problem then you should consider to flash in the new revision otherwise we always prefer to wait until Samsung officially release it.

Btw thanks for the visit and let us know if you need help to do it over the Odin.
      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi ash,

Could we know whether what network does your I9100 attached with? And so far as what we could find out the 2.3.6 update may very much depend upon your carrier and probably you could try to ask 3 about that. These are the firmware upgrade info that we have gathered so far:

      • UK (Orange, O2) → 2.3.5 Available! (14/11)
      • UK (T-Mobile) → 2.3.5 Available (14/12)
      • UK (unlocked) → 2.3.4
      • UK (Vodafone, H3G) → 2.3.5 Available! (03/11)

If you are really desperate looking for an update, you may try to get it done manually through Odin.
      Thanks for the visit btw.

    Hello Mike

    • Mike
      January 29, 2012 at 7:48 pm #

      Hi Nikunj,

We think that Samsung might either release the latest 2.3.6 to the Switzerland’s Kies or they might just hold it as currently they are in the process of releasing the Android 4.0 ICS to the SG2. FYI, Sammy has already released the beta version Android 4.0.3 to the SG2 and they might just go ahead to release the ICS upgrade in Kies instead of the latest Gingerbread.

So we think that the 2.3.6 will come before the end of Q1 or they might just opt for the ICS release by then.

      Regards,
      Mike

    • Mike
      January 29, 2012 at 8:51 pm #

      Hi Selvan,

      February 3, 2012 at 11:19 pm #

      Hi Akis,

We projected that it might be before end of Q1 (Mar) or Samsung might just hold back the release as currently they are working on to integrate the SG2 into ICS. So you could expect the Sammy to release the Ice Cream Sandwich into the Kies.

We are not too sure about the bluetooth quality for the headset as currently we have yet to test any.

      Hi Petro,

As we understand for the SG2 unit that is attached to the Telco, you might still have to wait before Samsung release it for the network provider.

Currently most of the available 2.3.6 firmware is for the SG2 international model.

my sgs2(I9100M) is still on 2.3.3. I’m in canada. When I connect to kies, it says latest firmware installed. Any ideas? Also, in the past week, the phone has automatically shut off and will not reboot until I remove and reinsert the battery.

    • Mike
      February 3, 2012 at 11:39 pm #

      Hi Cheryl,

We understand that the 2.3.6 update is currently only available to the international version of Galaxy S2 meaning i9100 and i9100G. So you might have to wait until Samsung officially release it to the Bell Mobility. And currently the 2.3.6 firmware is only being distributed in most of the country in the Asian region.

Automatically shut off? How often does that occur? Is it regular or just one time only? It it heavily running the background apps when that occurred?

      Thanks for the visit.

      Hi Murali,

It seem that Samsung has yet to release the 2.3.6 to the Dubai version’s firmware. And as we understand Samsung will either release it by the end of next month or they might on hold the release to give way for the Android 4.0.3 update.

So either your Kies will prompt for the 2.3.6 update or it might just get updated into Android 4.0.3 ICS – Ice Cream Sandwich.

What you mean by the black screen? Is the the unit power off by itself? How often does that occur?

      Hi tamheed,

It seem that Samsung has yet to released the Android 2.3.6 to your country region. You could opt to have the firmware installed manually through Odin.

Or we suggest you to wait for the Samsung’s official release for ICS – Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0.3) which schedule to be released on next month (Mar).

We pretty sure that currently Samsung is putting all its efforts into the release so you might expect the 2.3.6 to be delayed or not release at all to the country that yet to get the update.

      Regards,

    Hi Mike,
My SGS2 worked flawlessly on stock 2.3.3 version. After updating via Kies from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 phone became very laggy when exiting messages and its very, very annoying.
Im from Serbia and phone is bouht in Germany. Its simfree.
Is there any cure for that or should I wait next official update from Kies which I hope will be ICS?
    Thanx in advance.

      February 21, 2012 at 10:10 pm #

      Hi Stagller,

You could try to update it to the latest available version of 2.3.6 or revert back to your original version of 2.3.3 using Odin, but that need to be done manually.

In additional, just to inform that the ICS should be available around next month so if the lag really annoying, you could always opt for the manual update suggestion as above OR you could wait for the newer ICS to get your problem resolve.

PS: If you could wait another month then we think that ICS would always be a better option especially if you don’t want to mess with the manual update stuff.

      Hope that help.
      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi jheqjheq,

For your information, here are the lists of advantages that Android 2.3.6 offered:

      Bug Fixed with 2.3.6

      • The update addresses the issues surrounding the locked screen hang bug.
      • Fixed a voice search bug.

      Improvement with 2.3.6

      • Enhance boots up speed of the phone.
      • Increases the phone’s HSPA connection speed.
      • Changes the camera Interface.
      • Enhanced the phone’s security and boosts the phone’s performance.

    Hi Mike,

      Hi JJ,

Think Samsung just abandon the plan to release the Android 2.3.6, as today they just make available ICS Android 4.0 in Europe region and Korea.

So you should be able to get the ICS update today or tomorrow.

    Hi Mike,

    Region – India

When I connect my sii GT-I9100 to Kies it comes with a pop up for a newer firmware update.

My query is that after I follow the procedure and back up data will my phone after a reboot, regain all the previous applications, pictures, contacts, messages and other settings or not?
I have loads of data on my sd card too. Will the update affect data on my sd card? I have moved lot of applications to my sd card so I’m kind of worried of what shall happen to them!! What shall happen to my GPRS settings and MMS settings?
I’ll be glad if you can help me with my query. I’m fine with my older firmware though.. Just that if a newer firmware is available then might as well check it out.

      March 21, 2012 at 11:00 am #

      Hi PSM,

Yes that should be the case as we understand the Kies will try to backup everything prior to the update so that it could restore back in case anything unwanted happen during the upgrade process.

All the GPRS and MMS setting will be backed up as well. But if you are afraid you might down with a difficulties then try to backup everything first with the backup app from the Android Market (now Google Play) prior to that.

Anyway fyi, the ICS will be around the corner in the Asia region pretty soon. So maybe you would like to wait for the update to be available in India.

      Regards,

        Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I thinks it is safe enough to download & upgrade to new firmware update as kies will backup everything.
But as you suggest, I would surely like to wait for the ICS update. As such I have no such critical problem using the current version though.

Thanks a lot for your help. May be I’ll get in touch with you as soon as the ICS update is posted.

    Hi Mike,

I’m from M’sia and would like to upgrade from my stock android 2.3.3 to the 2.3.6 since it does improve the overall performance of my sg2 according to reviews that I had read.

I tried to update the software through FOTA but apparently it seems that there is no update available. Thus, I’m now trying to download kies 2.0 and update through it.

I would like to know is it the safest approach to update the software through kies since I do not wish to root my phone. Is there any side effects after updating the software? And what should I do before performing the update such as backup of apps, contacts, etc?

Really looking forward to your wise advice. Thanks.

    • Mike
      March 22, 2012 at 6:14 pm #

      Hi W.Y,

Yes update firmware through Kies is one of the safe method to get your phone updated else you could always opt for a more straight forward way by requesting Samsung Center to do it for you FOC.

So far we have not facing any issue of updating the firmware through the Kies, Kies will automatically prompt for backup during the whole process but if your are afraid that you might be running with any issue while update then you could always try to get a backup with the app like Titanium Backup.

But probably you would like to wait for ICS which scheduled to release in the Asia region (including Malaysia) this end of month or early next month.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have successfully downloaded the latest kies 2.0 and update the kies firmware’s management as prompted too. Soon after, I connected my sg2 and proceeded with the update of the firmware to 2.3.6.

Initially, the first phase of download to prepare the upgrade of firmware was successful. However, the second phase of download to upgrade the firmware runs very slowly and got stuck at 2%. Not long after, there is a notification prompting with the message ‘The operation has timed out’ and the whole process was cancelled.

I repeated the whole procedure for a couple of times and the faced the same outcome at each attempt.

So Mike, perhaps you have any idea into this matter? Thanks a lot!

      Hi Ashneel Chand,

For your information currently Samsung only release the 2.3.4 or 2.3.6 to a few region in the world and now they stop releasing it after they officially announced the ICS availability.

So probably you would like to wait for the ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) upgrade to be made available in the Samsung Kies instead of updating to the other version of Gingerbread.

Hi Mike. I’m from Philippines. Would like to ask.. If I’m going to update my SGs2 from GB to ICS via ” Samsung KIES”, does it voids the warranty? Thanks a lot and based from the earlier post i’ve read, you’re really doing a great job on helping others. Keep it up and you’ll be blessed more. :)

      Hi tenton,

Nope upgrading the SG2 firmware through Samsung Kies won’t void your warranty but manually by Odin would if you not resetting the counter when you return the unit back to Samsung for repair.

Thanks a lot for the compliment btw.

      Thanks for the visit.

      Hi Mohamed Aslam,

Perhaps it might be due to the fact that the phone was not upgraded with Kies that causing the error and Samsung yet to release the 2.3.6 to the country your SG2 belong to.

If you would like to get enable the Kies update then we would suggest you to restore the firmware back to the original version – 2.3.3 OR

You could always stick with the 2.3.6 version then get all your firmware upgraded (including ICS) done manually through Odin.

It seem like the firmware was only partially loaded into your SG2 but don’t worry about it. You will be able to restore it back to the working mode once you loaded in the firmware.

So an easy way to do this would be to get your unit back to Samsung Center and they should be able to fix the problem in no time.

        Could you please help me?

          Hi IZI,

We suspect that it might be due to the region control in Kies software that only release the firmware 2.3.5 to certain part of the world while the country you reside yet to get the update.

It is the same case for Galaxy S2 (I9100) for the ICS update where most countries in Asia region still yet to receive the official update in Samsung Kies.

So you might have to wait to get the update or you could always manually get it updated through Odin.

          Regards,
          Mike

      Hi Viren,

The phone restart by it self? Hmm… we don’t think that it is the Android ver 2.3.4 issue, suspected that might be the hardware inside it that might have gone defective.

Since it is a brand new unit, we recommend that you return the phone to Samsung Center for repair and they will be able to get it fix.

Don’t worry too much, it will get resolve and worst come to worst you could always ask Samsung for a replacement unit or get your money refunded.

      Regards,
      Mike

      Hi user,

Think we still have to wait further. Previously we mentioned that most likely it going to happen during the end of this month but now as the date is approaching think it hold less hope for the Apr. Our wild guess will be on May and fyi most of the countries in Asia/ Asia Pacific region still yet to get the ICS update.

Guess Samsung still have a lot to learn from Apple in terms of the end-user-experience.

Hopefully Samsung really look into this and get it up to Kies ASAP.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi mike…
    I using Galaxy S2(Gt-i9100G)note that G version.
I m completly unsatisfied with G version.big issue is camera hanging.
Always phone gets hang any time.i factory resetted my phone 5times.
I also complaint in samsung care last week.my phone stay at service centre for one day.
But nothing to solve.there is no option for hanging issue.i always remove battery in 5-6 times in one day.and most important thing is that i using android pho.ne from last 3 year.
I bought my Galaxy S2 in 27th feb.2012.I m tired with my S2.i want Xperia S.can i solve my problem or go for Xperia S.give some suggetion plz.
Second que. Is that when Galaxy S2 G version gets ics update?special date for it?

      April 28, 2012 at 11:06 pm #

      Hi salman,

So far the best we could suggest you is to return the phone back to Samsung and ask for replacement – prefer I9100 non G version or get Samsung to refund you as it will be a waste of $$$ if you buy Xperia without asking for money back.

      OR

You could wait for ICS to be released but we but we not 100% sure it will resolve the hanging issue that you claimed and when Samsung going to get it release throughout the world.

      Hope that answered your question.
      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi mike,

I have an updated kies software for mac. Initially when kies detected my phone it said “Your device does not support software upgrading through Kies Software” Then i followed one your messages where it said to change the CSC code which i did. I am from India hence put INU. It installed everything my phone restarted. But after doing all this Kies still gives me the same message. I am not able to update my software. I have Samsung Galaxy S GT I9003

      April 28, 2012 at 8:55 pm #

      Hi yogesh,

Hmm… are you able to change to other country code like XEU (uk), XEO (polish), DBT (german) or DEU?

Cause we heard that it may get the firmware update with certain CSC code but not the others.

Guess Samsung still have a lot to learn from Apple in terms of the end-user-experience.

    Hi Mike,
I live in South Africa, and through Kies my phone (Baseband XXKI1) only pgraded to 2.3.4. Cant we get at least 2.3.5? I had 2.3.5 on my HTC Chacha

      April 28, 2012 at 8:40 pm #

      Hi Pierre,

Samsung is quite slow in term of applying the changes across the Samsung Kies worldwide.

The firmware update still very much dependent on the region (country) you bought the phone.

So you might need to wait further or wait for the ICS Android 4.0 to be available in your country ELSE

you could always get it upgraded manually through Odin.

      Regards,
      Mike

    Hi Mike,

I’ve just bought a galaxy S2 in Bangkok yesterday, and I’d like to upgrade it to ICS but as I can see it’s still not available in Asia…

Do you think I can do it with the “non official” way (odin)…I’m not sure if it’s safe or not and I’d feel really bad if I can’t use my phone anymore after that :)

    Hi Mike,
I have a S2 GT-I9100 with Android 2.3.5 Samsung stock model XWKJ2 which I bought in Germany. I have read that ICS is available now in Germany (16APR) but when I connect to Kies via USB it says I’m running the latest firmware. Do you know if Kies has been enabled for ICS update in Germany?

I am from India, and I had upgraded the android version to 2.3.6 through the official release using Kies.

Ever since, my phone does not connect to Kies again.

When I connect the USB cable, it says “USB device not recongized”.

Browsed through a number of forums for this.. tried out everything like uninstalling Samsung Drivers and Kies, and resintalling…reinstalling with USB debugging mode ON, and then connecting after turning it off…etc.

I do not mind formatting the phone if there is a way to backup my contacts and messages.

Can you suggest what to do?

    Hi Mike,

I am facing a serious problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT I 9100 G. 2 weeks ago, i was sitting in office and my S2 was connected to WiFi in office which have a very good signal strength.

My phone asked about a system update, so I pressed accept. I dont know what update it was, but after 15 to 20 min when the update was done, it asked for reboot, i accepted and rebooted. Then after few minutes, there was another similar update request popped up, to which i responded as accept, it took around 10 to 15 min and asked for reboot.

when i pressed OK for reboot, the phone tried to reboot but since then it only displayes the modern name on the display. It is not starting.

FYI, my phone have loads of pictures and contacts which i dont want to loose. But yes, there was little space left in the phone memory of about 800 to 900 MB i suppose when these updates were accepted by me. I dont use memory card in the phone.

Now, please tell me, how can i start my phone in such a way that no data is lost.

Can i transfer the data to a memory card? By addiding a memory card of some 4 GB in the phone and transfer the data from phones memory to memroy card using the Vol UP + OK key + Power key; which popps the Android menu for the phone.

Please advise, i am unable to use the phone for the past 2 weeks. I am from India.

Your support in this matter will be highly appreciable.

    Kind Regards,

    Vivek.

Hi I have a SGS2 GT-I9100 currently running on 2.3.4. I have never been given notification of an upgrade. I have checked OTA as well as KIES on a mac which tells me that my current version is the latest i.e 2.3.4. My service provider is Telstra in Australia but the phone was an unlocked import and the CSC :I9100TPAK12 suggests it is a Pakistani model.
Any suggestions as to how to get an upgrade to 2.3.6 or ICS

      May 17, 2012 at 3:29 pm #

      Hi Chrisso,

It seem that Samsung release the ICS by batch. Meaning that some of the countries will still have to wait until they officially release it in the Kies.

Anyway you could opt to upgrade it manually with Odin else you still have to wait.

FYI most country in the Asia region still yet to receive the official update for ICS.

      Regards,
      Mike

One question I have never received notification for any upgrades from 2.3.4. I would have thought there would have at least been notification for upgrade to 2.3.5 or 2.3.6

        Cheers

Hi Mike. I got Samsung Galaxy S2 from Saudi Arabia. I live in India. Whenever i try to update my phone to 2.3.6 from the present 2.3.5, It shows me that 2.3.5 IS the latest Android version for my phone. How do I update it to 2.3.6??

    • Mike
      May 17, 2012 at 3:23 pm #

      Hi Alishan,

It seem that Samsung has yet to officially release the version to your current region.

You could either opt to upgrade it manually through Odin or wait for Samsung to officially release it. (But we doubt that as currently ICS Android 4.0 has been released to few countries)

      Regards,
      Mike
